Wisconsin added 9,500 jobs last month. That’s according to a report from the state department of workforce development. Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch was in Green Bay, and she says the private sector created nearly 13,000 jobs in June. The gain was the largest in a month, since 2003.
The state had a net gain of 9,500 jobs because 3,400 government jobs were eliminated. About 3,200 of them were at the state level.
Kleefisch says the stabilized state budget situation is a factor in the positive report.
Paul Jadin, CEO of the state Economic Development Corporation, says Governor Walker is on pace to keep his promise of adding 250,000 jobs in four years.
Even though the state added more jobs, the unemployment rate went up by 0.2 percent last month. It’s now 7.6 percent.
