The Department of Administration has named a trustee to review the state’s deer management practices. Dr. James Kroll will provide an independent review of how Wisconsin manages its deer herd.

The appointment was ordered last week by Governor Walker, who campaigned on a promise of reviewing how the state goes about controlling the size of the white-tailed deer population.

Dr. Kroll will conduct a scientific study of herd management practices, including how the state has worked to control Chronic Wasting Disease. He’s expected to complete a report by June of 2012.

The Department says Kroll has over 30 years of experience in wildlife management, and currently serves as the Director at the Institute for White-tailed Deer Management and Research.
