As the state recognizes June as Dairy Month, it's predicting a healthy outlook for the industry even though there's one area that could improve.

The Agriculture Department's Will Hughes says cheese production is growing steadily each year and while milk production is racing to keep up, it's still fifteen percent short. We could use more milk to meet the growing demand for cheese.

Hughes says we either need to produce more in the state or bring some milk in from other states. He says the key is for producers to keep re-investing in their operations and current high milk prices will help. Hughes says it's all about staying competitive.

But even though cheese production could use more milk, Hughes says the trend looks healthy for the state's dairy industry.
