An event taking place in Green Bay this weekend is aimed at helping Wisconsin veterans find work. Governor Scott Walker says the “Hiring Our Heroes” event is open to military personnel and their spouses who have skills many employers in the state are looking for. He says they hope to match those veterans with companies who can use the abilities they learned while deployed.

Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary John Scocos expects there will be major demand for this type of event, with over 3,500 troops recently returning home from the largest military deployment in the state’s history. Scocos says nearly 35-percent of those troops said they were either looking for a new job or planned to leave their current one, and it can be very difficult for those returning from combat to find a new job without help.

The “Hiring our Heroes” event will feature over a dozen employers, although Governor Walker hopes to add more companies before this weekend. The job fair runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Veterans and employers can pre-register for the event online.
