The battle between the University of Wisconsin System and the son of a former legislator is going to the State Supreme Court.

Jeffrey Decker was banned from UW system property following incidents at UW Stevens Point where he protested how the administration handled budgets for student health services, the student union, student dining, and residence halls. The University banned Decker from all UW system properties after convincing Dane County Judge John W. Markson to issue a restraining order in October 2011.

Despite the order, Decker continued to protest and hand out literature on UW system campuses, even after being arrested at UW Fox Valley. The University was able to get a harassment injunction against Decker in the circuit courts.

Decker appealed and won when the Court of Appeals ruled in his favor on January 24th of this year. The University of Wisconsin was not satisfied with the decision and appealed the case to the Supreme Court, which accepted the case Monday.

Jeffrey Decker is an Oshkosh area resident and the son of former Democratic state Senator Russ Decker of Schofield.
