State officials have unveiled a new website that aims to help Wisconsin’s unemployed and those looking for a new career. It’s called Skill Explorer, and it doubles as both a clearing house for Wisconsin jobs, and a place to look for a new career.
Regional JobCenter director Kristine Porter says the tool is perfect for those trying to find somewhere to work after losing a long-term position. “It really opens up possibilities and potentials, and does change the thinking of individuals when they see, ‘I’ve done this, and it can transfer into this and this and this.”
The site allows individuals to input their former job and other skills, then find out what sort of careers and openings are available in related fields. Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson says the new website should simplify your job search. “Job seekers can find all the jobs in the state of Wisconsin listed on the Job Center’s Website, and other websites, and be able to search for those jobs based on skill sets and things they’ve done in the past. Get information about average earnings and where the jobs are located.”
