One day after announcing that assistant Gord Ash would not retain his position as his top assistant, Milwaukee Brewers general manager David Stearns has named Tampa Bay’s director of player personnel Matt Arnold as his vice president and assistant general manager. The move was first reported by Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The 36-year-old Arnold takes over for Ash, who had served in the assistant GM capacity since 2002. Ash has been offered Ash an opportunity to stay on in another capacity with the Brewers organization.
Arnold previously served as pro scouting director for the Rays and assisted that organization with player acquisitions, contract negotiations and internal farm system evaluation among others.
Arnold first joined the Rays following the 2006 season as a pro scout and was promoted to director of pro scouting in November of 2009. He was then promoted to his recent position this summer.
