The Hudson police chief is worried that one of his detectives may have created a security breach for the upcoming Republican National Convention next week in the neighboring Twin Cities. The detective reported this week that his gun, badge and identification card were stolen from his unmarked squad car as it sat in the driveway of his home. The detective says he usually puts the gear in a safe in his home but was coming home from a late night shift and was going on vacation the following day and simply forgot his gear in his car.

Security at the GOP Convention in the neighboring Twin Cities has been notified. Police Chief Marty Jensen says because Hudson police are not involved in the security detail at the event. It would raise a red flag if anyone used the credentials.

It's the second time this year that there has been a theft from a Hudson Police squad car that had been taken home by an employee. The victim of the other theft was the police chief himself who lost his personal laptop when his vehicle was broken into earlier this summer.
