Authorities in Clintonville, and Waupaca County Emergency management personnel spent much of the night and this morning trying to figure out the cause of noises and unexplained shaking on that city’s east side.
The first reports were called in to Clintonville police around 9:30 Sunday night, with residents in the Garfield and Lincoln Street areas saying they were hearing explosion-type noises and underground shaking.
Police in the area confirmed the reports, and several more calls were taken around three this morning, with one woman reporting an explosion-type noise so loud that she was having trouble hearing.
The calls to police subsided around 5:30.
Waupaca County authorities say Clintonville utility workers have checked all underground gas and water lines, along with street level man holes, with nothing unusual found. Officials say they will try to determine if it could be weather-related, or geological in nature.
