Madison's Steve Stricker has struggled with his game over the past couple of months.  But yesterday (Thursday), on day 1 of the 108th U.S. Open, Stricker appeared to have some of his problems worked out, at least early.

Stricker rolled through the first 9-holes at 4-under par, then went 6 over on the second 9-holes to finish with a 2-over par 73.

Madison's Jerry Kelly finished with a 4-over par 75 and Middleton's Jon Turcott went to 6-over 77.

Justin Hicks and Kevin Streelman, neither of whom are in the top 600 in the world golf rankings, shot 3-under par 68's and will enter day 2 with a 1-shot lead on Rocco Mediate, Stuart Appleby, Eric Axley and Geoff Ogilvy.

Phil Mickelson is at even par and Tiger Woods finished his first round 1-over.

Defending champion Angel Cabrera struggled with an 8-over par 77 on day one.
