Officials in Bruce say a student is in a detention facility in Eau Claire today, after reportedly bringing a gun to school on Monday of this week. Administrator Deb Brown says another student told officials that the 15-year-old student had the weapon after the school day was already over. Brown says they contacted the Rusk County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff David Kaminski says the gun was recovered and the student is being held at a secure detention facility. Kaminski says the investigation is ongoing at this time.
Brown says they do not believe there's any additional danger to students at this time. The student is believed to have concealed the weapon during the short period of time he was at the school on Monday. School policy prevents students from taking backpacks to class, so Brown says it could not have been readily visible to other students. Brown says no students have reported being threatened either. The student has not been identified at this time and there's no word on if charges will be filed.
The incidents comes just days after a fatal shooting at a school in rural Sauk County, and two other fatal shootings elsewhere in the US.
