A new report calls for safeguards on cosmetics products for children.

The report from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and WISPIRG looked at the chemical contents of dozens of products designed for children. It found a majority had traces of toxic chemicals that can cause skin rashes and are suspected carcinogens.

Alyssa Matthews with WISPIRG says those chemicals contents don't show up on product labels though, because they're considered contaminants by the FDA.

Matthews says they want the FDA to require those products to be made in a way that prevents those chemicals from showing up in their products in the first place. She says that would keep consumers from just assuming the products are completely safe for children, when that might actually be harmful.

Matthews says several other countries have already banned such chemicals from cosmetic products.
