The last time a Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher not named Ben Sheets won a game was April 5th. That streak finally ended yesterday when Jeff Suppan worked 7 solid innings, allowing just 1 run in the Brewers 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Mothers Day at Miller Park.
The Brewers made a change in their bullpen, removing Eric Gagne (pictured) from the closers roll and handling save situations by committee. Just a day earlier, Gagne announced that he was no longer fit to have the closers job.
So with a three-run lead, the Brewers went to Solomon Torres to start the ninth. Torres recorded two outs but also allowed two hitters to reach base. Ned Yost went to Brian Shouse who served up a run scoring single, then got the next batter (Adam Kennedy) to ground out.
Ryan Braun provided the offense, clubbing a pair of solo home runs to allow the Brewers to take 2 of 3 in the series.
The two teams will play a rare Monday series finale, tonight at Miller Park. Dave Bush gets the start for the Brewers.
