The Milwaukee Brewers were facing a St. Louis Cardinals team struggling with the tragic loss of pitcher Josh Hancock and pulled out a 7-1 win in their series opener at Miller Park.
Former Cardinals Jeff Suppan pitched his first complete game in nearly four years to win his fourth straight for the Brewers. Suppan improved to 4-2, scattering 8 hits and a walk. The last time Suppan finished a game was with Pittsburgh, against the Cardinals on July 28, 2003.
Suppan joins lefty Chris Capuano with four wins in the opening month of April, the first time in franchise history that the Brewers have had two pitchers with four wins apiece.
Prince Fielder homered, his 6th of the season.
The Brewers finished the month of April with a 16-9 record and a 3 1/2 game lead in the Central Division.
