A state senate committee takes up campaign finance reform today with the latest Supreme Court race in mind.

One advocate for clean government called the recent state supreme court race "a cash soaked-special interest-contaminated smear fest."

State senator Pat Kreitlow chairs a committee that will look into special interest money. Something, he says, taints every elected official whether they want to acknowledge it or not.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson will testify before that committee today on campaign finance reform.

James Alexander is executive Director of the state's Judicial Commission, the agency that investigates judicial conflicts of interest. He thinks the increasing amounts of special interest money will only increase the appearance of impropriety. Something the commission will be watching closely.

And there are many who hope the legislature will address campaign finance reform sooner than later.
