The 16-year-old Fond du Lac boy accused of shooting a seven-year-old Campbellsport girl with an arrow last May has been bound over for trial. Casey Bennett was in Fond du Lac County Court Friday for a preliminary hearing on charges of Second Degree Reckless Injury and Obstructing an Officer.
Police say Bennett was using a compound bow when he shot an arrow at a squirrel, missing and hitting Aryanna Schneeburg in the back. She required surgery to have the arrow removed. The girl’s diaphragm, liver, lung, spleen and stomach were all damaged.
Sheriff’s Detective Nate LaMotte testified that the other teen Bennett was with during the incident on May 20th told him the two heard a girl screaming after Bennett shot the arrow. LaMotte says the pair then hid the bow under a bed and fled the area.
Judge Richard Nuss found probable cause a felony was committed and bound the case over for trial. The judge also denied a motion to dismiss the reckless injury charge.
