Marathon County’s District Attorney is asking the court to find the driver of last Friday’s crash that killed two teens delinquent. The adjourned initial appearance was held Wednesday afternoon in juvenile court for the 16-year-old girlm who was unlicensed and behind the wheel when she lost control of the large sport utility vehicle.
The vehicle with ten young people, all under 18-years-old, was traveling to the Eau Claire Dells park to go swimming when the crash occurred. 12-year-old Reighlee Stevenson and 12-year-old Deserae Landowski died from their injuries. Another passenger remains hospitalized in serious condition, while the seven other kids in the vehicle were treated and released following the crash.
Prosecutors filed a motion to change the venue of the case, but did not say exactly why. Judge Greg Huber recused himself from the case Monday saying he knows the grandparents of one of the crash victims. Oneida County Judge Michael Bloom has been assigned the case and will oversee all future court proceedings.
