Senior Keifer Sykes scored all 11 of his points in the second half, including the game winning jumper with 17-seconds left to play, leading the Green Bay Phoenix to a 63-62 win over the Youngstown State Penguins in Youngstown, Ohio.

Sykes spent much of the first half in the locker room, getting stitched up after receiving a cut above his eye.

Green Bay trailed 58-48 with 8:14 left to play, but the Phoenix defense held YSU to only four points and outscored the Penguins 15-4 to end the game.

The win pushes the Phoenix into a three-way tie for first place in the Horizon League with Valparaiso and Cleveland State.  Green Bay plays at Valpo on Friday night.

The victory also left head coach Brian Wardle with more wins (91) in his first five seasons than any coach in the program’s Division I history.  It also marked back-to-back 20-win seasons.

Senior Greg Mays had 15 points and senior Alfonzo McKinnie had a second straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead four players in double figures.

Green Bay and Valparaiso tip-off at 6pm Friday night on ESPN2.
