ACC/Big Ten women’s matchups announced Monday

The matchups for the ACC/Big Ten Women’s Basketball Challenge were announced on Monday.  The annual challenge is offering 14 games for the fifth consecutive season.

The challenge takes place over two days in late November, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 28th, and continuing the following night.

Last year’s Challenge proved to be one of the most competitive in the event’s history, with 10 of the 14 games decided by 10 points or fewer, including four games decided by one point, with the ACC ultimately prevailing by a 10-4 count.  Last year, Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers and Wisconsin registered wins for the Big Ten.

Wisconsin to meet Wake Forest in women’s challenge

WOMENS BASKETBALL LOGOThe Wisconsin Badger women’s basketball team will play at Wake Forest in the ninth annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Wednesday, Dec. 2 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Badgers were 9-20 in 2014-15, including a 5-13 mark in the Big Ten to finish 11th.  Coach Bobbie Kelsey returns seven letter winners and four starters, including 2014 first-team All-Big Ten pick Michala Johnson, who was recently granted a sixth year by the NCAA.  UW also returns 2015 honorable mention All-Big Ten pick Nicole Bauman, who led Wisconsin with 15.3 points per game as a junior.

Wake Forest was 13-20 in 2014-15 and 13th in the final ACC standings at 2-14.  The Demon Deacons return four starters from last season.

Wisconsin is 0-1 all-time against Wake Forest, losing to the Demon Deacons on Dec. 28, 1992, in Madison.

The Badgers are 4-4 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge after losing at Miami 66-54 last season.

The ACC has dominated the Challenge, winning six of eight seasons with two seasons ending in a tie.

Badgers to meet Duke in 2014 Challenge game

next season.  With those kind of projections and lofty expectations, come big games.

The 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge matchups were released yesterday and the Badgers have drawn Duke on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the Kohl Center.

Coming off a 48-38 win at Virginia last season, the Badgers own the most victories (7) among Big Ten teams during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.  Duke, which owns the ACC’s most wins (13) and best win percentage (.867) during the challenge, upended Michigan at home during last season’s annual series.

One of Duke’s losses in the challenge came back in 2009, a 73-69 loss to the Badgers at the Kohl Center.  The teams also met in 2007 and Duke came away with an 82-58 win.

The ACC owns a 10-3-2 mark since the inception of the series in 1999.
