Jones leads Packers to rout of Lions

Aaron Jones had a big day, helping the Green Bay Packers roll to a 42-21 win over the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

Jones rushed for a career-high 168 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a 75-yard TD run to start the second half.  He also had a team-high 68 receiving yards on four catches, combining for 236 all-purpose yards in the win.

The Packers (2-0) won their eighth straight home opener and improved to 8-0 against the NFC North under coach Matt LaFleur’s tenure in Green Bay.

Aaron Rodgers completed 18 of 30 for 240 yards and two touchdowns and the Packers have now put up 85 points in the first two weeks of the season.  The Packers are just the eighth team in the Super bowl era to score at lest 40 points in each [Read more…]

Packers rebound to beat Lions, secure number-2 seed in NFC Playoffs

The Green Bay Packers had everything to play for with a first round playoff bye on the line, but it looked like the Detroit Lions were the team that had a sense of urgency.

The Lions jumped out to an early lead and took a 17-3 advantage at halftime before falling to the Packers 23-20 in the regular season finale at Ford Field.

The Packers (13-3) came out flat and managed just 136 total net yards in the first half.  Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed just 6 of 18 for 90 yards and a passer rating of 50.7 in the half.

Rodgers struggled with overthrows, finishing with 16 overthrown balls for the game.  That is a career high and a NFL high for overthrows.

Packers add two to Hall of Fame

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame added two new members over the weekend.

Former running back Ahman Green and offensive tackle Ken Ruettgers are the two latest former Packer greats to be added to the Packers Hall of Fame.

Green remains the team’s all-time leading rusher, accumulating 8,322 yards during his career.  He holds a number of franchise records.

Ruettgers was a first-round draft pick in 1985 (7th overall) and anchored the left tackle position for a decade.  He started 140 games during his career and retired during the Packers 1996 Super Bowl season.

First year running back Eddie Lacy was given the organizations Rookie of the Year award, while wide receiver Jordy Nelson accepted the MVP award.

Former Packers wide receiver Antonio Freeman was honored for his catch in the 2002 Monday Night Football game against the Vikings that he made on his back.  He was give the Memorable Moments in Packers history award.

Herman Reckleberg was honored with the Bart and Cherry Starr award.

Lacy added to NFL Pro Bowl squad

the Pro Football Writers of America.  Today, Lacy was named to the Pro Bowl roster.  Lacy replaces Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who is unable to participate due to injury.

Lacy set franchise rookie records this season for rushing yards (1,178), rushing TD’s (11) and rushing attempts (284) and tied the team’s rookie mark for 100-yard rushing games with four.  Lacy led all NFL rookies and ranked No. 8 among all players in rushing yards and was No. 3 in the league among all players with his 11 rushing TD’s.

Lacy is the first Green Bay rookie running back to be selected to the Pro Bowl since John Brockington in 1971 and the first Packers RB to be named to the all-star game since Ahman Green in 2004.

Packers HOF to Induct Green & Ruettgers

Packers players Ahman Green and Ken Ruettgers at the 44th Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, to be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

Green came to the Packers in a 2000 trade with Seattle.  He played eight seasons with the Packers and finished as the club’s all-time rushing leader with 8,322 yards.  He also holds franchise records for most yards from scrimmage (11,048), 1,000 yard seasons (6), 100-yard games (33) and rushing attempts (1,851).

Ruettgers, a first-round draft pick in 1985, played 12 years for the Packers (1985-96) and was a fixture at left tackle for more than a decade.  Ruettgers anchored a line that helped establish a new championship era for the team.

Ruettgers appeared in 156 career games, with 140 starts.  He earned team offensive MVP honors in 1989.

Former Packer, Green to join the Blizzard

a new partner in the Green Bay Blizzard ownership group during a news conference this afternoon. 

The Blizzard called a news conference this afternoon to announce the move but didn’t release Green’s name.  That information was first made public by the Green Bay Press Gazette on-line this morning.

The Blizzard just kicked off their third season in the Indoor Football League.  Green Bay is off to a 2-1 start after going 11-3 last season.

Green has had two different stints with the Packers, rushing for 9,205 yards and scoring 74 touchdowns.
