Packers veterans get some time off

August 6, 2012 By Bill Scott

Sunday night’s training camp workout was a showcase opportunity for some of

Graham Harrell

the younger players on the Green Bay Packers roster.

A handful of veterans were given the night off which allowed players like Graham Harrell and wide receiver Diondre Borel to get some more legitimate reps.

Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Ryan Pickett, Jarrett Bush, Jeff Saturday, Charles Woodson, Anthony Hargrove, A.J. Hawk and Greg Jennings were all off.  Jennings would have missed anyway because of a concussion.  John Kuhn could have taken the day off, but given the fact that he just returned to practice, he decided to work anyway.

Hargrove’s suspension remains at 8-games

July 4, 2012 By Bill Scott

After a lengthy appeal process, the NFL has upheld the suspensions of Packers DL Anthony Hargrove and 3-other Saints players for their roles in the recent bounty systems.  Johnathan Vilma was suspended an entire year, Will Smith will sit 4-games while Scott Fujita, currently with the Browns, will sit the first three games.

The NFL invited the players to sit down and talk with the league and the suspensions could be reduced from there if new information came about.  The players reportedly will take the next step in their appeal which is the Supreme Court.

Hargrove signed a one-year deal with the Packers this off-season.

Hargrove says the NFL is wrong (AUDIO)

June 20, 2012 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers defensive end Anthony Hargrove appealed his 8-game

Anthony Hargrove

suspension to Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York on Monday.  Yesterday, Hargrove held an informal news conference and said it’s not his voice saying “Give me the money” in a video used by the NFL as evidence in its investigation of the Saints’ Bounty program.

Hargrove says the NFL has its evidence wrong.  He said, “In their rush to convict me, they made a very serious error.” [Read more…]

Hargrove says the NFL has used semantics, but not hard evidence, as the basis for punishing current and former Saints players in its bounty investigation.  All four players have appeal hearings scheduled before NFL commissioner Roger Goodell today.

Following is a statement released a short time ago from three of the four players, including Hargrove, who was signed as a free agent by the Green Bay Packers before any of the bounty penalties were handed down.

Anthony Hargrove is thrilled to be back on the football field again and if he’s

Hargrove at OTA's

concerned about his upcoming 8-game suspension and the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, he’s not showing it.

Hargrove is appealing his suspension.  When asked about it, as well as any other aspect of the bounty scandal, Hargove turned the conversation back to football and his new team, the Green Bay Packers.

Packers’ Hargrove gets 8-games in Saints bounty scandal

May 2, 2012 By Bill Scott

Four players were handed suspensions by the National Football Leaguetoday

Anthony Hargrove

for their roles in the New Orleans Saints’ bounty scandal.

Linebacker Jonathan Vilma was hit the hardest.  He’s been suspended for the entire 2012 season.  Defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove (now with the Green Bay Packers) was suspended eight games.  Defensive end Will Smith got 4-games and linebacker Scott Fujita (now with Cleveland) will serve a 3-game suspension.

All of the suspensions are without pay and can be appealed.

A NFL investigation found that from 2009-11, New Orleans coaches and players put together a bounty system that paid out cash bonuses for hits aimed at knocking opposing players out of games.

Saints coach Sean Payton is out for the entire 2012 season, former Saints defensive coordinator Greg Williams is suspended indefinitely and Saints GM Mickey Loomis has to serve an 8-game suspension.  Assistant head coach Joe Vitt has to serve the first 6-games of the upcoming season.

Hargrove signed as a free agent with the Packers during the offseason.  The 1-year deal is worth the veterans minimum of $825,000 and didn’t include a signing bonus.  That means the Packers could release Hargrove if they so desired, without owing him anything.

Packers serve notice in 2012 NFL Draft

April 30, 2012 By Bill Scott

After one of the worst defensive seasons in recent memory, GM Ted

Ted Thompson

Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy served notice this weekend.

The Green Bay Packers picked a total of 8-players in this draft, the first six came on defense.  The message from Thompson and McCarthy is that last year won’t be tolerated.  Not only did last year’s defense finish as the worst pass rushing team in NFL history, they couldn’t tackle either.
