It took the Dallas Cowboys trading down to the 31st pick for the first Wisconsin Badgers to come off the board.

The Cowboys with first selection in the first round after trading with San Francisco took Wisconsin offensive lineman, center Travis Fredrick.

Fredrick a Sharon, WI. native started 31 games at Wisconsin at both center and guard. During his freshman and sophomore years at UW, Fredrick primarily saw playing time at left guard. In his final season at Wisconsin, he started all 14 games at center and earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors.

The selection of Fredrick was the first Big Ten player chosen this year. Had Fredrick not gone to the Cowboys late in the first round, it would have been the first time since 1953 a member of the Big Ten was not selected in the first round.

February 1, 2013 By Bill Scott

Tiera Stephen grabbed and offensive rebound and put in the game winning basket with six seconds left as the Badger Women notched a 63-61 upset victory over #7 Penn State last night at the Kohl Center.  It was just the second loss of the season for the Nitny Lions (17-2) and first  in Big Ten play (7-1).

Morgan Paige led the Badgers with a career best 33-points.  As a team, Wisconsin shot 50% from both the field (21 of 42) and beyond the arc (9 of 18). Stephen’s 11-rebounds tied a career high.

Wisconsin’s offensive woes continue (AUDIO)

January 30, 2013 By Bill Scott

For the fifth time in eight Big Ten games, the Badgers Men’s Basketball Team failed to reach 50-points.  Wisconsin fell on the road in Columbus Tuesday night to #11 Ohio State 58-49.  After leading most of the first half, Wisconsin was outscored by the Buckeyes 34-23 in the final 20-minutes.

Travon Jackson led the Badgers with 12-points while Deshaun Thomas had 25-points while playing all 40-minutes for Ohio State.  From the field, Wisconsin shot under 37% while the Buckeyes connected on over 51% of their shots.  The Badgers also went the entire contest without getting to the foul line.  Ohio State’s ability to attack was the difference according to Wisconsin Assistant Coach Lamont Paris:

Wisconsin runs through Nebraska on the way to Pasadena

December 3, 2012 By Bill Scott

Last week, many were questioning whether the (then) 7-5 Wisconsin Badger Football team deserved a spot in the Big Ten Title Game.  After Saturday’s 70-31 win over Nebraska at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the Badgers validated their appearance and punched their ticket to a third straight Rose Bowl.

Wisconsin will take on #6 Stanford, the Pac-12 Champions, January 1st in Pasadena.   The Badgers will be the first Big Ten team since the 1977 to 1979 Michigan Wolverines to play in three straight Rose Bowls.

Wisconsin did all their damage on the ground.  The Badgers piled up 539 rushing yards, the most ever given up by a Nebraska team.  Melvin Gordon racked up 216 yards on 9 carries, Montee Ball added 202 yards on 21 carriers while James White added 109 yards on 15 carries.  The game marked the 2nd time Wisconsin had 3 players rush for over 100 yards and was the first time 2 players hit the 200 yard plateau.  The Badgers also set a school record with 8 rushing TDs.
