The first full-time president of the Green Bay Packers, Judge Robert J. Parins, died on Friday at the age of 98.

Parins was elected team president in 1982, 16 years after he was voted to the Packers’ board of directors.  He was named a director emeritus in 1994 after serving on the board of directors for 28 years and was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 1998.

“Judge Parins was an excellent leader of the Packers, creating a foundation for the team’s successful organizational structure,” Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said in a statement.

“His contributions during his time as president, board member and director emeritus over the course of 50 years were transformative, and we are extremely grateful for his dedication.”

Parins retired as team president in 1989 and was elected honorary chairman of the board.  Bob Harlan was elected to succeed him.

Parins graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1936 and attended law school at Wisconsin.  He served as a Brown County circuit judge from 1968 to 1982.

Former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf becomes the 23rd member of the Packers organization today to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Wolf’s son Eliot, who is the Packers director of player personnel, said he cried when his mother called him in January with the news that his dad had been elected.  Eliot Wolf said he used to joke with his dad that when he got into the Hall of Fame, he would present him.

So that is how it is going down today.  Eliot Wolf will present his father as he enters football’s biggest shrine.

Wolf joined the Packers in 1991 and led the franchise’s turn-around.  He started by hiring Mike Holmgren as his coach and trade a first round pick to Atlanta for quarterback Brett Favre.  Once the ball started rolling, then it was time to make a big free agent splash.  That’s when Wolf enticed Reggie White to sign with the Packers.  [Read more…]

Former QB’s coach Steve Mariucci makes a plea for Favre to return even sooner!

A few weeks ago, Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said there was concern that Brett Favre would be booed when he returns to Lambeau Field.

Yesterday, it was revealed that the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame is in the process of trying to figure out where to put all the fans that will want to be a part of next summers Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.

The Packers and the teams Hall of Fame held a joint press conference to announce that Brett Favre would be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame next July 18, 2015 and Packers team President and CEO Mark Murphy took it one step further, announcing that Favre’s number-4 would be retired at the same time.

The team will announce plans to unveil the retired number inside the stadium later during the season.  Favre will go into the Hall by himself, only the 6th time that’s happened in the history of the Packers Hall of Fame.  It’ll be the first time that a player will enter the Hall and have his number retired at the same time. Driver goes out a Packer

February 6, 2013 By Bill Scott

Donald Driver

Donald Driver

Donald Driver entered the NFL as a 7th round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 1999.  Fourteen years later and Driver has officially retired, also as a member of the only team he’s known his entire career.

The retirement news came out at the Super Bowl in New Orleans last week, and Driver made it official during a one-hour ceremony at Lambeau Field’s Atrium today.

Driver thanked all of those responsible for allowing him to get where he is today, starting with former GM Ron Wolf, who drafted him out of Alcorn State.  It ended with a thank you to the fans.

More than 1,000 fans stood in line early to get into the ceremony when the doors opened this morning.  Driver was amazed at those that stood in line last Friday in the cold to snap up the limited amount of free tickets that were available to the public and were gone in less than 15 minutes.
