Bucks sign Jennings to multi-year deal

April 2, 2018 By Bill Scott

After a pair of 10-day contracts, the Milwaukee Bucks signed point guard Brandon Jennings to a multi-year deal, guaranteeing his contract for the rest of the season, including playoffs.  His contract for next season is not guaranteed.

In 10 games with the Bucks this season, Jennings has averaged 5.5 points, 3.3 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 15 minutes of playing time per game.

Jennings best performance came in his first game back with the Bucks, when he scored 16 points and added 12 assists and eight rebounds.  His playing time will likely diminish though as injured point guards Malcolm Brogdon and Matthew Dellavedova are expected to return soon.

The Milwaukee Bucks will have point guard Brandon Jennings for tonight’s home game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Bradley Center.  They signed Jennings to a second 10-day contract after his initial 10-day deal expired on Tuesday.

Jennings averaged 6 points, 5.5 assists and 2.8 rebounds in the four games he’s played with the Bucks.  He nearly recorded a triple-double in his debut against Memphis on March 12 (16 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds).

Jennings was drafted by the Bucks in 2009 and spent his first four NBA seasons with the team.

The Bucks are 37-33 on the season and sit in eighth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race.  They’re a half game behind 7th place Miami.

The Clippers come to Milwaukee tonight riding a four-game losing streak.  They fell to the Minnesota Timberwolves 123-109 on Tuesday night in Minneapolis.

No movement in NBA’s Draft Lottery

May 18, 2016 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 10Nothing changed after Tuesday night’s NBA Draft Lottery in New York City.  The Milwaukee Bucks still have the tenth overall pick in the June 23rd NBA Draft.

None of the 14 teams moved from their previous positions, so Philadelphia will have the first selection in the upcoming draft.

The Bucks only had a 6.5% chance of moving into the top three.

The tenth spot is a familiar one for Milwaukee.  The Bucks drafted there twice in the last seven years.  In 2011, the Bucks selected Jimmer Fredette in the tenth slot and traded him to Sacramento, eventually getting Tobias Harris.  In 2009, the Bucks took point guard Brandon Jennings, who played four seasons in Milwaukee before being dealt to Detroit in 2013.

Bucks fall to Spurs in San Antonio

January 26, 2015 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee BucksMilwaukee Bucks logo 2 started strong last night, but couldn’t finish in the second half and fell to the Spurs in San Antonio 101-95.

The Bucks scored 31 points in the second quarter and shot 58% from the field in the first half, but they turned around and scored just 12 points in the third quarter and shot 38% in the second half.

Still, the Bucks (22-22) had a chance to tie the game in the final half-minute of play but guard Jerryd Bayless missed on a short floater in the lane and the Spurs then clinched the victory by making four free throws to close out.

Khris Middleton led five Bucks in double figures with 21 points.  Bayless had 15 points and five assists.  Tim Duncan led the Spurs (29-17) with 20 points and 11 rebounds. [Read more…]

Bucks trade Jennings to Detroit

July 30, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Brandon Jennings saga appears to be over in Milwaukee.  The Bucks have reportedly sent Jennings to Detroit in a sign-and-trade deal for guard Brandon Knight.  Milwaukee also reportedly  gets forward Khris Middleton and center Slava Kravtsov in the deal.  As part of the sign-and-trade, Jennings agreed to a 3-year, $24-million deal with the Pistons.

Milwaukee and the 4th year point guard have had a rocky year.  Last off-season, it was reported that Jennings turned down a 4-year, $40-million extension with the team.  After feeling like he was snubbed as an all-star for the 2nd straight year in February, Jennings went into the tank and his relationship with Bucks then Interim Head Coach Jim Boylan went south for the rest of the year.

The relationship between Jennings and the Bucks appeared to be irreconcilable when they went after Atlanta restricted free agent point guard Jeff Teague.  It appeared that Teague was ready to join Milwaukee but Atlanta matched the offer leaving the Bucks without a point guard.  The only options Jennings had were a sign-and-trade deal or sign a qualifying offer to return to Milwaukee for a year.

Knight, 21, averaged 13.3 points and 4.0 assists in 75 games for the Piston last season while Jennings, 23, averaged 17.5 points and 6.5 assists in 80 games for the Bucks.

Atlanta matches offer sheet on Teague

July 15, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Atlanta Hawks threw a wrench in the Milwaukee Bucks plans at point guard over the weekend.

Milwaukee signed restricted free agent Jeff Teague to a 4-year, $32-million offer sheet late last week.  Since Teague was a restricted free agent, the Hawks then had 72-hours to match the offer.  Saturday they did just that.

Teague averaged over 14-points and 7-assists a game last season for the Hawks playing under then Atlanta and current Milwaukee head coach Larry Drew.  The move also signified the Bucks intentions to move past Brandon Jennings, who is a restricted free agent of their own.

It’s hard to say what Milwaukee will do now.  Jennings is still on the market but it is safe to assume that his relationship with the Bucks is tarnished with the attempt to get Teague.  Jennings is a restricted free agent, so the Bucks will have the option to match any offer he would receive.  So far this off-season, Milwaukee has added a trio of guards in Luke Ridnour, O.J Mayo, and Carlos Delfino.

Bucks sign Jeff Teague to an offer sheet

July 11, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks appear to be moving forward without Brandon Jennings.  Wednesday, Milwaukee signed Atlanta restricted free agent PG Jeff Teague to a 4-year, $32-million offer sheet.  Because Teague is restricted, Atlanta will have 3-days to match the offer.

Teague is coming off the best year of his 4-year career, all with Atlanta.  He averaged over 14-points and 7-assists playing under current Milwaukee Head Coach Larry Drew.

As for Jennings, this move doesn’t rule out a return.  However, if the offer is not matched by Atlanta, it will be tough for the Bucks to come up with money to sign him.  Earlier this week it was reported that he was seeking nearly $12-million per season.  Jennings is also a restricted free agent.

Wednesday marked the first day that moves made since the July 1st “negotiating period” could become official.

A decision on Brandon Jennings appears to be next for the Bucks

July 9, 2013 By Bill Scott

After a busy weekend of filling the roster, the next decision for Bucks General Manager John Hammond appears to be what to do with one of their own free agents.

Point guard Brandon Jennings is currently a restricted free agent and his future in Milwaukee is uncertain.  The Bucks will have a week to match any offer Jennings receives on the open market but reported interest on the Jennings front has been quiet so far in free agency.

Monday, a couple scenarios were reported by two different media outlets, each pointing in a significantly different direction:

  • ESPN’s Marc Stein reported a possible sign-and-trade deal that would send Jennings to the Atlanta Hawks.  In return, Milwaukee would receive PG Jeff Teague from the Hawks who would also be signed-and-traded.  Teams can add an extra year to a deal with their own players, hence the idea of the sign-and-trade.
  • Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal-Times tweeted later in the day Monday the Bucks were offering Jennings close to his $12-million asking price.

The Bucks could also let the market dry out on Jennings and sign him to a 1-year qualifying offer that would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent after next season.  That move, however, appears to be unlikely.

One other note, Monta Ellis could be on his way to Sacramento.  Numerous outlets reported Monday that the former Buck was involved in serious talks with the Kings.

NBA free agency is underway

July 1, 2013 By Bill Scott

NBA free agency is officially underway and the Milwaukee Bucks say they’ll put the full court press on point guard Brandon Jennings to return to the team.

Jennings is a restricted free agent and the Bucks have made a $4.3-million qualifying offer to Jennings last week to retain the right to match any offer from another NBA team.

General Manager John Hammond has said the Bucks plan to sign the 23-year old Jennings to a long-term contract or match any offer if an agreement can’t be reached.

Free agent shooting guard J.J. Redick isn’t expected to return to the Bucks.

Bucks hold two picks, Berggren hopes to be drafted

June 27, 2013 By Bill Scott

The 2013 NBA Draft is tonight form Radio City Music Hall in New York.  The Cleveland Cavaliers hold the top pick with Orlando and Washington rounding out the top 3.

The Milwaukee Bucks have a pair of selections tonight; 15th overall in the first round and 43rd overall in the second round.  With Monta Ellis opting out of his deal, Brandon Jennings becoming a restricted free agent, and J.J Redick becoming an unrestricted free agent, it’s easy to believe guard will be the way the Bucks go.  General Manager John Hammond is in the same line of thinking, but can’t guarantee that is what will happen…
