Ellis opting out of his deal

June 17, 2013 By Bill Scott

One off-season question for the Milwaukee Bucks has been answered.

Monday, reports surfaced that guard Monta Ellis would opt out of his contract with the team and become a free agent.  Ellis was set to make $11-million next season, the final year of a 6-year $66 million deal he originally signed with Golden State.

The Bucks reportedly wanted to sign Ellis to a 2-year, $24 million extension this off-season, which would have been added to the final year of his original deal.

Ellis average just over 19-points per game this past season to lead Milwaukee.  The Bucks next biggest question becomes the future of guard Brandon Jennings who becomes a restricted free agent when the NBA’s off-season officially begins.

James scored 30 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists in the win.

The Bucks managed to keep it close for a while, but the Heat went on a 19-5 4th quarter run to break it open. [Read more…]

Bucks host Heat in game 3

April 25, 2013 By Bill Scott

For the first time since 2010, the NBA Playoffs will be in Milwaukee.  The Bucks host the Miami Heat tonight in Game 3 of their best-of-seven first round playoff series.  Milwaukee hosted 3-games in their 2010 series in Atlanta which was won by the Hawks in 7-games.

The Heat hold a 2-0 advantage heading into tonight.  Miami blew out the Bucks 110-87 in Game 1 Sunday before sprinting past Milwaukee in the 4th quarter Tuesday night for a 98-86 win.

If the Bucks are going to pick up a win in the series, they need a better performance from their backcourt.  Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis shot a combined 5-for-22 from the field Tuesday for a combined 15-points.

Tonight’s tip-off from the BMO Harris Bradley Center is set for 6:00.

Bucks cool off in 4th quarter, fall to Heat

April 24, 2013 By Bill Scott

After playing a good first half in the series opener on Sunday night in Miami, the Milwaukee Bucks stretched their solid play against the Heat to 3-quarters last night, then went on to lose 98-86 to go down 2-games to none in the best-of-7 series.

Dwyane Wade scored 21 points and Lebron James added 19 to lead the Heat.  Irsan Ilyasova had 21 and Mike Dunleavy added 16 in the loss.

In the opener on Sunday, it was Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis combining to score 48 points and they got little contribution from anybody else.  This time, it was everybody else doing the scoring, while two starting guards combined for only 15-points. [Read more…]

Bucks face Miami in game 2 tonight

April 23, 2013 By Bill Scott

If the Milwaukee Bucks have any chance of knocking off the Miami Heat tonight in game 2 of their best-of-7 series, they’re going to need more production from players other than Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis.

Jennings and Ellis combined to score 48 points in the series opening loss (110-87) on Sunday night.  The problem is, no other player scored more than 6 points and the rest of the team combined for just 39 points.

Mike Dunleavy and J.J. Redick are the two best scorers after Jennings and Ellis but they combined for 5 and 6 points respectively on Sunday night.  They’ll need to pick things up in game 2 tonight.

Ersan Ilyasova also needs to bring something to the party tonight.  Ilyasova scored just 2 points in the series opener.

Following tonight’s game, the Bucks return to the BMO Harris Bradley Center for games 3 and 4.

the Milwaukee Bucks to a 95-89 win in their regular season finale at Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City held out starters Kevin Durant and Kendrick Perkins, along with some key reserves after having already clinched the #1 overall playoff seed in the Western Conference.  Durant conceded the regular season scoring title to New York’s Carmelo Anthony.  He would have needed to scored 70 points to pass Anthony.

Bucks close regular season home schedule tonight

April 15, 2013 By Bill Scott

There’s just two games left in the regular season for the Milwaukee Bucks, including their home finale against the Denver Nuggets tonight.

Denver captured its franchise-record 55th game on Sunday (118-109 over Portland), improving to 37-3 at the Pepsi Center.  Coach George Karl is drawing plenty of conversation with regards to NBA Coach of the Year honors.

Denver is currently in the 3rd position in the Western Conference with 2-games left to play.  Hanging on to that position should give the Nuggets plenty of motivation.

The Bucks are stumbling into the playoffs.  They’ve lost 4-straight and 11 of the last 14 as they get ready for their first round playoff opponent Miami.

The Bucks are trying to get healthy for the playoffs.  Brandon Jennings’ recovery from a left Achilles injury has kept him out the last couple of games, but he’s reportedly getting close to returning.

Big man Larry Sanders has also missed the last two games with a sore lower back, but could return tonight.

The Bucks (37-43) have fallen 6-games below .500 entering play tonight.
