Horizon League postseason hardware.

Head coach Brian Wardle was named Coach of the Year, junior guard Keifer Sykes was named Player of the Year and senior Alec Brown was named the Defensive Player of the Year.  Green Bay becomes just the second team to claim each of those three honors in the same season (Butler, 2009-10).

Sykes and Brown were each voted to the 2013-14 All-Horizon League First-Team while Brown was joined by sophomore Jordan Fouse on the Horizon League All-Defensive Team.

Wardle is the third Phoenix coach in its Division 1 history to earn Coach of the Year accolades (Dick Bennett, 1990-91 and 1991-92; Mike Heideman, 1995-96). Sykes becomes just the third player (Tony Bennett, Jeff Nordgaard) in Green Bay’s Division I program history to earn conference player of the year honors and the first since Nordgaard in 1995-96.  Brown joins Terry Evans (2007-08) as the only two Phoenix players to win Defensive Player of the Year.

The investigator that spent the last month interviewing current and former UW-

Green Bay players and staff members with regards to the allegations against the school’s men’s basketball coach Brian Wardle, has handed his findings over to University Chancellor Thomas Harden.

According to a statement released by the school, “Before the report and any decision are released to the public, chancellor Harden is planning to meet with coach Wardle.  The Chancellor said the University will have no further comment until the report is made public.”

The investigation centered around allegations of mistreatment by former player Ryan Bross.

Bross told the Green Bay Press Gazette that Wardle ridiculed him with vulgar language after he defecated in his shorts during a preseason training exercise, told him he would be a better player if he had sex with a girl he was interested in dating and refused to allow him to take classes for his major.

Chancellor Tom Harden said this morning that the University will publicly release the investigator’s report as soon as it is legally permissible to do so.

Green Bay adds to its recruiting class

May 6, 2013 By Bill Scott

Toronto native Tevin Findlay has officially joined the Green Bay men’s basketball recruiting Class of 2013, as the versatile combo guard signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Phoenix.  The signing comes despite coach Brian Wardle being investigated for allegations of mistreatment of players.

Findlay is the third signee in the Green Bay recruiting class that will be joining the program next fall.  He joins Little Chute high school teammates Turner Botz and Kenneth Lowe who both signed during the early signing period in November.

Findlay spent the 2012-13 season at IMG academy, a postgraduate prep school in Bradenton, Florida.  Findlay averaged 15 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals per game while helping IMG to more than 20 wins.

The school announced that Sophomore Greg Mays has been suspended for three games for a violation of team policies.

“Each member of this program is held accountable to the standards set for all of us, and Greg made a decision which does not live up to those standards,”said Wardle.  “Greg is a good young man who understands his mistake and its consequences, and I expect him to work hard on and off the court to be a strong representative of our program, athletics department and University moving forward.”
