Brewers fall, drop 2 of 3 to Pirates

June 4, 2012 By Bill Scott

A Milwaukee Brewers rally fell just short as they fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 at Miller Park on Sunday.

Fresh off a 4-game road sweep over the Dodgers, it looked like the Brewers were poised to make a run.  Instead, they dropped 2 of 3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Brewers played without Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez, who were nursing injuries, but they still managed to stay in it until the end.

The two teams combined to hit 7 home runs, 6 of them solo shots.  The most important came off the bat of Clint Barmes.  His shot off of Brewers closer John Axford gave the Pirates a 2-run cushion that would prove to be huge. [Read more…]

Brewers open series in San Francisco tonight

May 4, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers, after an off day on Thursday, open a 3-game weekend series at San Francisco against the Giants tonight.

The Brewers have called up utility infielder Brooks Conrad from AAA Nashville to replace injured first baseman Mat Gamel who is out with a torn ACL.  Conrad was hitting .400 in the minors.

Travis Ishikawa is expected to get the first crack at replacing Gamel at first base.

The Giants are also trying to deal without one of their top players.  Third-baseman Pablo Sandoval suffered a broken hand and is out 4 to 6 weeks.

The Brewers have lost 2-straight and 5 of their last 7 games.

Brewers play two today

April 3, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers knocked off the Chicago White Sox 13-7 in Cactus League play on Monday.

Brooks Conrad homered in the win, but starter Zach Greinke struggled in his final spring tuneup, allowing 6-runs over 3-innings.

The Brewers will play a pair of split-squad games today against Arizona and Chicago (Cubs).  Kyle Heckathorn and Randy Wolf will get starts for the Brewers.

The Brewers will open the regular season on Friday afternoon at Miller Park against the division rival St. Louis Cardinals.
