The Milwaukee Bucks pulled off a deal today in what is believed to be a move to create salary cap space.

The Bucks sent veteran forward Ersan Ilyasova to the Detroit Pistons for forwards Caron Butler and Shawne Williams.

Butler spent part of the 2013-14 season with the Bucks.  He averaged 11 points, 4.6 rebounds and 24.1 minutes in 34 games before being waived on Feb. 27, 2014.  Butler finished that season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, then signed with Detroit last season.

With the Pistons, Butler averaged 5.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 20.8 minutes in 78 games. [Read more…]

Bucks fall short at Indiana, waive Butler

February 28, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks gave the Indiana Pacers a run for their money but wound up on the losing end 101-96 on Thursday night in Indianapolis.

Roy Hibbert had 24 points and 12 rebounds and Paul George and Lance Stephenson added 18 points each for the Pacers (44-13) who improved to an NBA-best 28-3 at home.

The Pacers blew a 17-point lead, fell behind by 6 in the 3rd quarter, then rebounded for the win.

Brandon Knight had 23 points and Khris Middleton added 22 for the Bucks.

Butler waived

The Bucks waived forward Caron Butler on Thursday after agreeing to a contract buyout.  Butler made 13 starts and appeared in 34 games this season, averaging 11.0 points and 4.6 rebounds a game.

After a 48-hour period to clear waivers, Butler will be able to sign with another NBA team.  The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder both are reportedly interested.

The Bucks acquired Butler in a trade during the off-season.

Bucks swing a deal but fall to the Nuggets

February 21, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks still haven’t won back-to-back games this season.  While compiling the worst record (10-44) in the NBA, the Bucks fell to the Denver Nuggets 101-90 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Denver forward Kenneth Faried poured in 26 points and pulled down 6 rebounds to lead the Nuggets (25-28) to the win, ending a 5-game losing streak.  It’s their first win since beating the Bucks back on Jan. 25.

Caron Butler had 17 points and Ersan Ilyasova added 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss for the Bucks.  Milwaukee played without point guard Brandon Knight who missed the game due to a right heel injury.

The Bucks fell to 1-4 on their current 6-game home stand that comes to an end on Saturday against Indiana.  They also fell to 1-20 against Western Conference teams.

Bucks swing a deal

Gary Neal never fit in after signing a 2-year free agent deal with the Bucks during the off-season.  So the Bucks sent him to Charlotte, along with point guard Luke Ridnour.  In return, the Bucks acquired veteran guard Ramon Sessions and power forward Jeff Adrien.

It’s the second go-round with the Bucks for Sessions, who was the team’s second-round draft pick in 2007.  He spent two seasons in Milwaukee, then had stops in Minnesota, Cleveland, Los Angeles and Charlotte.

Both Sessions and Adrien have expiring contracts.

NBA Trade deadline is today

February 20, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks will host the Denver Nuggets in NBA action at the Bradley Center tonight.  Before that game tips tonight, there’s a chance the Bucks roster could take on a slightly different look.

The Bucks have veteran players that they are likely willing to unload, starting with guard Gary Neal, as well as Luke Ridnour and Caron Butler.

Ridnour has started 12 of 36 games that he’s appeared in, averaging 5.7 points and 3.4 assists a game.

The Bucks are looking for young players and possibly draft picks to help them down the road.  There’s always a chance that the Bucks will do nothing before the 2pm (CT) league deadline, but GM John Hammond’s track record likely says otherwise.  Hammond has made deals in three of the last four years.

Bucks finally win their 10th of the season

February 19, 2014 By Bill Scott

It took 53 games for the Milwaukee Bucks to win 10.  That 10th victory came last night, the first game back from the all-star break, a 104-100 win over the Orlando Magic at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Bucks drop 7th straight (OT)

November 23, 2013 By Bill Scott

Philadelphia’s 7-1 big man Spencer Hawes hit an off-balance three-pointer from the corner with under 2-seconds to play in regulation forced overtime.  The 76ers went on to beat Milwaukee 115-107, sending the Bucks to their 7th straight loss.

The Bucks (2-9) got a season high 38 points from Caron Butler in the loss.  Butler’s three-pointer with 2:10 left in regulation, gave the Bucks a
98-88 lead and it looked like the Bucks were on their way to victory.

Luke Ridnour could have sealed the deal for the Bucks but made just one of two free throws with 3.9 seconds left to provide Hawes and the 76ers with the opening that they needed and would take advantage of.

The 76ers outscored the Bucks 13-5 in overtime for the win.

Ersan Ilyasova had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in 41 minutes for the Bucks, who will return home to host Charlotte at the BMO Harris Bradley Center tonight.

On a night where former Milwaukee guard Michael Redd officially announced his retirement from the NBA, the Bucks didn’t disappoint.
