The Milwaukee Bucks streak of scoring 100 or more points in a game came to an end at 83 games on Sunday.  But they still won the game, 93-85 over the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Sunday.

The last time the Bucks failed to score at least 100 points in a game was February 23, 2019.  The only two teams with longer streaks is the 1981-82 Denver Nuggets (136 games) and the 1978-80 San Antonio Spurs (129 games).

Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated for the Bucks, scoring 40 points, pulling down 20 rebounds and dishing out six assists.  Giannis hit 17 of 28 from the field for the game.

Brook Lopez was the only other starter to score in double figures for the Bucks, finishing with 16 points, giving the Bucks their sixth straight victory.

Aside from Antetokounmpo, the day was a struggle for the Bucks, who shot 40% from the field and 22.6% from three-point range.  They turned the ball over 17 times.

The Bucks played a second straight game without Khris Middleton with neck soreness.

The Bucks improved to an NBA best 52-8 and return to action in Miami on Monday night to face the Heat.

Bucks comeback effort falls short

The Milwaukee Bucks started fast, faltered in the middle and finished strong.  But the hole was too big to dig out of, falling to the Charlotte Hornets 110-107 in Charlotte on Monday night.

The Bucks built an early 14-point lead after making 8 of their first 10 three-pointers.

From that point, the Bucks found it difficult to score, both inside and outside.  Charlotte was filling the paint with defenders, trying to prevent Eastern Conference Player of the Week Giannis Antetokounmpo from making a big impact.

Charlotte’s defensive effort turned a 14-point deficit into a 13-point on the Bucks at halftime.  The lead grew to 25 in the third quarter before the Bucks started their comeback rally.

Defensively, the Bucks employed a switching defense, something they haven’t done much of this season, and it worked.

The Bucks were able to cut the 25-point deficit to 13 after three-quarters.  The comeback continued in the fourth quarter, thanks to the work of reserves Pat Connaughton (15 points) and Donte DiVincenzo (8 points in 11 minutes).

Milwaukee climbed all the way back to a one-point deficit but Charlotte held the Bucks off from there.  Giannis Antetokounmpo had 20 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists to lead the Bucks.

Milwaukee dropped to 14-6 and will return to Milwaukee to host the Chicago Bulls at Fiserv Forum on Wednesday night.

Bucks hang on for season opening win

October 18, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks jumped out to a big lead in the first half, then went cold in the second half but managed to pull out a 113-112 win over the Charlotte Hornets in the regular season opener in Charlotte.

The Bucks led by as many as 20 points, but things got sloppy in the second half.  They turned it over 21 times, eight of them by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who found himself dealing with foul trouble in the opener.

After the Bucks coughed up the lead, Antetokounmpo made a pair of free throws with 24.5 seconds to retake the lead.

The Hornets had a shot at the win, but Kemba Walker missed a contested layup and Nic Batum’s three-point attempt at the buzzer failed, giving the Bucks the win. [Read more…]

Khris Middleton  has struggled from three-point range so far this season, but he hit a clutch three with 43-seconds to play last night, helping the Milwaukee Bucks knock off the Charlotte Hornets 103-94 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Middleton finished with 20 points, 13 of which came in the second half and NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 32 points to lead the Bucks.  Giannis also added 14 rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots.

The Bucks improved to 3-1 and held an opponent under 100 points for the first time this season.

Off the bench, Mirza Teletovic hit 5 of 9 three-pointers and led the bench production with 15 points.  Greg Monroe added eight points and seven rebounds.

Former Wisconsin standout Frank Kaminsky led the Hornets (1-2) with 18 points off the bench.  He hit six of eight from the field and three of four from distance.

The Bucks played without point guard Malcolm Brogdon who was sidelined with a sprained left ankle.  Brogdon hurt his ankle in the final minute of Saturday’s win over Portland.

The Bucks are off until Thursday when the face the Boston Celtics at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

Snell leads Bucks to road victory over Charlotte

March 29, 2017 By Bill Scott

Tony Snell scored a career-high 26 points and the Milwaukee Bucks shot 72% from the field in the first half, pulling out a 118-108 win over the Hornets in Charlotte on Tuesday night.

It’s the 12th win in the last 15 games for the Bucks (38-36), who remain tied with Atlanta for the fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.

Snell hit 10 of 14 field goals, including four of his eight three-point attempts.  Giannis Antetokounmpo added 20 points and eight rebounds in the win.

The Bucks scored 35 points in the first quarter and led 72-50 at halftime.  They finished the game shooting 62.2% from the field and were 14 of 30 from three-point range. [Read more…]

Bucks deal Plumlee to Hornets

February 2, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks signed Miles Plumlee to a four-year, $50 million contract last summer, but things didn’t work out the way either side had hoped.

Bucks general manager John Hammond sent Plumlee to the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, getting big men Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes in return.  The Bucks also released Steve Novak to make room for the extra roster spot.

Plumlee averaged 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 32 games for the Bucks this season.

Hawes is a 10-year NBA veteran with stints with Sacramento, Philadelphia, Cleveland, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Hornets.  He averaged 7.3 points and 4.2 rebounds in 35 games for Charlotte this season. [Read more…]
