Packers claim former Bears DT Ferguson

April 3, 2017 By Bill Scott

Two days after the Chicago Bears released defensive tackle Ego Ferguson, the Green Bay Packers claimed him on waivers.

The fourth-year pro is in the final year of his four-year rookie contract.  The Packers will assume Ferguson’s base salary of $980,981 for the upcoming season, but only have to pay him if he makes the 53-man roster to start the season.

The 6’3, 315-pound Ferguson played in just 20 games with one start in his three seasons in Chicago.  He hasn’t played in a game since week 4 of the 2015 season, missing all of last year with knee and shoulder injuries.

Ferguson was a second-round pick (51st overall) in 2014.  He had 23 tackles and two sacks in 16 games his rookie season.  Ferguson was only active for four games the following season.

Ferguson is the second defensive lineman signed by the Packers this offseason.  They signed Ricky Jean Francois after he was released by the Washington Redskins.

Strong second half leads Packers to victory (AUDIO)

Davante Adams

Down several players going into the game, the Green Bay Packers showed signs of starting to come out of their shell but had to settle for a pair of first half field goals.

The Chicago Bears actually took the lead early in the third quarter when outside linebacker Leonard Floyd recovered Aaron Rodgers fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and a 10-6 lead.

That’s when the Packers would kick things in gear.  Rodgers tossed three second half touchdown passes to lead Green Bay to a 26-10 come-from-behind win.

Rodgers completed 39 of 56 for 326 yards and three touchdowns, surpassing 300 yards for just the second time in the last 12 games.  The 39 completions is a new franchise record for Rodgers, surpassing the previous record of 36, which was held by Brett Favre. [Read more…]

Sitton signs 3-year deal with the Bears

September 5, 2016 By Bill Scott

Josh Sitton

Josh Sitton

Just one day after the Green Bay Packers released him, three-time Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton agreed to a three-year deal with the Chicago Bears.

Sitton’s deal is reportedly worth $21.5-million over three years, including a $10 million signing bonus.

The 30-year old Sitton was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, but the Packers were looking to likely move on after this season.  Now, the Packers are moving on without Sitton and saving $6.55 million, giving them more salary cap space to try to resign other players that are set to become free agents after the season.

Starters T.J. Lang, J.C. Tretter and David Bakhtiari are all set to become free agents at the end of the season.

Packers face the Bears on Sunday at Lambeau Field

November 8, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers still don’t know who their starting guards will be when they face the Chicago Bears on Sunday night at Lambeau Field.  Both Josh Sitton and T.J. Lang worked out for coaches and trainers on Friday morning and now will see how they respond to that workout today.

Sitton and Lang were both listed as questionable on the teams injury report.  Following is your Saturday update on the team heading into Sunday’s game.

What’s next for Adrian Peterson?

November 5, 2014 By Bill Scott

Running back Adrian Peterson avoided jail time on Tuesday, reaching a deal with Texas prosecutors to resolve a child abuse case that revived a national debate about corporal punishment.

Peterson was sentenced to a form of probation after pleading no contest in Texas, to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault.  It’s not immediately clear how that plea deal would affect his playing status or whether he might be subject to a league suspension.

In the following video, I discuss my thoughts on Peterson at the moment and take a brief look at the Green Bay Packers, who are getting ready for Sunday’s home game against the Chicago Bears.

Packers sign RB Hill, Carimi to Atlanta

February 19, 2014 By Bill Scott

Running back Michael Hill, who spent time on the Green Bay Packers practice squad last season before signing with Tampa Bay, is headed back to Green Bay.

The Packers were one of four teams that showed interest and the two sides agreed to terms of a deal on Tuesday.

Gabe Carimi

It’s been a struggle in the NFL for former Wisconsin Badger offensive lineman Gabe Carimi.  He was a first-round pick by Chicago in 2011 and has been released by the Bears and then Tampa Bay.

Carimi agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

Packers fortunes may depend on Rodgers

November 5, 2013 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a left shoulder injury on the

Packers opening series and left the game, not to return.  The Chicago Bears went on to pull out a 27-20 win, ending the Bears 6-game losing streak against the Packers in the series.

An exact diagnosis hasn’t been given by coach Mike McCarthy.  He told the media after the game, “An exact diagnosis has not been given.  No timeline.”

When Rodgers left, longtime backup Seneca Wallace hit the field for the first time as a Packer.  Wallace struggled, going 11 of 19 for 114 yards and 1 interception.  Not even another solid running game could help Wallace in this one.

The Packers ground attack hit the Bears for 199 yards.  Eddie Lacy had 150 yards by himself on 22 carries. [Read more…]

Lambeau Field.  Chicago leads the all-time series 91-87-6, but the Packers are closing the gap.

The Packers have not only captured the last six games, but they’ve also won 14 of the last 15 against NFC North Division foes.

Aaron Rodgers is 9-2 against the Bears.  Mike McCarthy is 10-5, including an 8-1 mark since 2009.

Why do the Packers have such good numbers against Chicago?  Simple.  Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.  Those two have been around exclusively since 1992.  The Bears meanwhile, have started 26 quarterbacks during that time period. [Read more…]
