Brewers facing elimination after game 5 loss to Dodgers

October 18, 2018 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Brewers manager went with another bullpen game on Wednesday afternoon, but this time, they ran into a dominating pitching performance as Clayton Kershaw led the Dodgers to a 5-2 win in Los Angeles.

Kershaw held the Brewers to a run and three hits in seven innings as the Dodgers took a 3-2 lead in the NLCS.  It puts the Brewers in a must win scenario in game six on Friday night at Miller Park.

Kershaw’s outing came after he didn’t make it out of the fourth inning in game one of the series at Miller Park.

Wade Miley started for the Brewers but faced just one batter before Craig Counsell went to Brandon Woodruff out of the bullpen.  After Miley walked the first hitter, Woodruff hit Justin Turner but struck out David Freese and got Manny Machado to ground into an inning-ending double play. Gonzalez will start series opener

October 12, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers will send left-hander Gio Gonzalez to the mound in game one of the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Miller Park.

Since being acquired from Washington on August 31, Gonzalez went 3-0 with a 2.13 ERA in five starts for the Brewers.

“We like the matchup against their lineup,” said manager Craig Counsell.  “It’s no secret that we’re going to use our pitching a little differently than the traditionalists would like.  And so far, the first matchup that we liked was Gio on the mound.

Gonzalez didn’t face the Dodgers this season. [Read more…]

Kershaw gets best of Brewers again

May 21, 2013 By Bill Scott

For the second time this season, Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw got the best of the Milwaukee Brewers, holding the crew to 1 run on 3 hits in a 3-1 Los Angeles victory at Miller Park.

Late last month, Kershaw blanked the Brewers through 8-innings.  Last night he went the distance, walking 1 and striking out 5.

Yovani Gallardo (3-4) took the loss, giving up home runs to Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier.  Gallardo looked better and his velocity was up.  Unfortunately, the two mistakes he made would be too much to beat Kershaw.

The Brewers did get good production from their bullpen.  John Axford, Michael Gonzalez and Burke Badenhop all worked a scoreless inning of relief.

The Brewers will try to turn things around against the Dodgers tonight, but they’ll have to beat former hurler Zach Greinke.  Greinke has never lost at Miller Park, going 15-0 lifetime in Milwaukee.

Good pitching beats good hitting almost all of the time.  That’s the way it played out in

Los Angeles yesterday as Clayton Kershaw retired 18-straight hitters during one stretch to lead the Dodgers to a 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kershaw collected 12 strikeouts and walked no one to improve to 3-2 and lower his ERA to 1.73.

Kyle Lohse was the hard luck loser again for the Brewers.  Lohse worked 7 solid innings, but allowed a pair of Carl Crawford solo home runs to suffer the loss.  Lohse dropped to 1-2 with a 2.53 ERA in five starts this season.

The Brewers dropped 2 of 3 in the series with the Dodgers.  They’ll return home to Milwaukee to host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park tonight.
