Veteran Green Bay Packers safeties coach Darren Perry had an offer to stay on in Green Bay but coach Mike McCarthy announced today that Perry will not return to the teams coaching staff.

Perry will leave to pursue other opportunities.  He’s believed to be a candidate on the Tennessee Titans coaching staff.

Perry coached the Packers safeties since 2009 when he joined the team.  He has coached defensive backs in the NFL for the past 16 years.

He has tutored the likes of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Morgan Burnett, who have developed into the team’s top two safeties over the last few years.

Packers try to improve their defense, start with a safety (Audio & Video)

May 9, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers defense lacked playmakers last season.  We saw missed tackles, take/aways were down and there wasn’t a

single interception from the safety position.

With the top two playmaking linebackers off the board, the Packers used the 21st pick in the 2014 NFL draft on Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.  Jerron McMillian was cut in December and M.D. Jennings was not offered a contract during the off-season.  And starter Morgan Burnett didn’t come close to playing up to his new contract that pays him more than $6-million a season.

The Packers are hoping Clinton-Dix will come in and push to start right away.  They’re also hoping he’ll help boost the play of Burnett.

Safeties coach Darren Perry believes they get a player in Clinton-Dix that can do it all.  One scout said “Ha Ha” isn’t great at any one thing, but he’s pretty solid at everything.

One thing is certain, the Packers need better play from the safety position this season. [Read more…]

Banjo is making some noise in Green Bay

August 16, 2013 By Bill Scott

Every year, the Green Bay Packers uncover talented players that no team in the NFL saw fit to draft and add them to the regular season roster.  There’s a decent chance that one or more of those undrafted long shots could find their way on the Packers team this season as well.

Safety Chris Banjo wasn’t even with the Packers when camp got underway, but he’s here now, and making an impression.

Banjo picked off a pass in the end zone on Thursday and added some impressive hits n the 17-0 loss to Arizona.

Packers safety coach Darren Perry has been impressed with Banjo. [Read more…]
