Weeks looking to continue negotiations

January 31, 2011 By Bill Scott

Rickie Weeks says he wants to continue talking with the Milwaukee Brewers about a long-term contract extension, but only until spring training begins.  The second baseman said yesterday that he’ll tell his agent to stop negotiating a new contract once he reports for spring training to focus on baseball and the upcoming season.

Bush to Texas

Former Brewers’ pitcher Dave Bush has agreed to a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers with an invite to spring training.   Bush went 8-13 with a 4.54 ERA in 32 games for the Brewers last season.

10-games this season, holding on for a 4-3 win at Miller Park on Tuesday night.  The Reds’ magic number for clinching the National League Central Division was reduced to four.

Reds starter Edinson Volquez allowed just 1-run on 3-hits in 8-innings of work to pick up the win and further state his case towards securing a spot in the Reds post-season rotation.  Francisco Cordero made it interesting in the 9th but held on to earn his 38th save.

Dave Bush, making his last home start of the season, gave up all four runs in 5 1/3 innings.  Bush is a free agent at the end of the season and there’s a good chance that he won’t be back with the Brewers next season.

Jim Edmonds homered in the second off of Bush, but hurt himself rounding the bases.

After Bush departed, Todd Coffey, Mike McClendon and Manny Parra combined to strike out 9 of the 12 hitters they faced.

Brewers play spoiler, beat Arizona

August 18, 2010 By Bill Scott

An 8th inning gamble by manager Ken Macha paid off and the Milwaukee Brewers, in the role of a spoiler, knocked off the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 in St.

Brewers Celebrate!

Louis.

Macha walked Albert Pujols to put the potential winning run on base.  He instead pitched to Matt Holliday, who has a career .372 batting average against the Brewers and got Holliday to ground into a fielders choice to end the threat.

John Axford, who record two outs in the 8th, completed his 18th save in 20 tries in the 9th inning.

Dave Bush, who gave up four straight home runs his last time out, allowed just one last night, a solo home run by Albert Pujols in the St. Louis 4th.

Casey McGehee clubbed a 2-run home run in the 3rd, part of a 3-run inning and the Brewers never looked back.  McGehee had 3-hits on the night, raising his average to .288.

The Cardinals have dropped 3-straight have have now fallen 2-games behind the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central Division race.

Brewers sweep Nationals

July 26, 2010 By Bill Scott

Casey McGehee and Rickie Weeks homered and the Milwaukee Brewers scored five unearned runs off of Washington starter Ross Detwiler in beating the Nationals 8-3 at Miller Park, completing a 3-game sweep.

The win moved the Brewers to within 6-games of the .500 mark (47-53), the closest they’ve been to that mark since the middle of May.  It makes their series with the Cincinnati Reds starting tonight one of utmost importance. [Read more…]

Brewers fall short in Pittsburgh

July 21, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Brewers surrendered a franchise record nine first inning runs Tuesday night as Milwaukee fell in Pittsburgh 11-9.  Dave Bush was tagged for the 9-runs, though only 4 were earned due to 3 errors.

Bush ended up lasting 4-innings giving up a total of 10-runs, 5-earned, on 9-hits.  Bush talks about his first inning struggles:

Pedro Alverez had the big blast in 1st for Pittsburgh with a Grand Slam.  He also added a solo-shot in the 2nd.  Alverz had just 3-homers on the year before hitting 2 last night.  Neil Walker added a 5 for 5 night for the Pirates.

The Brewers never gave up after the big deficit.  Jim Edmonds had 4-hits including hits 5th home run of the season.  Ryan Braun added a 2-run blast in the 6th which pulled the Crew with in 1-run…but the comeback fell short:

It’s game 3 of the 4 game series tonight.  A pair of lefties will toe the rubber; Randy Wolf for the Brewers and Zach Duke or the Pirates.  6:05 is the first pitch from PNC Park.

Bush gets no support

July 16, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Brewers got another solid start from right-hander Dave Bush, but the

offense gave Bush little support as the Atlanta Braves won the series opener 2-1 in Atlanta last night.

Bush allowed just 2-runs on 7-hits in 6-innings against the Braves, with both runs coming on solo home runs by Atlanta’s Martin Prado and Chipper Jones.

Corey Hart had two hits for the Brewers, including his 22nd home run of the season.  The rest of the team managed just 4-hits together.

The Brewers fell to 10-games under .500 with the loss and trail the idle Reds by 9-games.

Brewers drop series with Astros (AUDIO)

July 1, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers had a good home stand, but it could have been better.  Manager Ken Macha’s club dropped 2 of their 3 against Houston after falling 5-1 to the Astros yesterday.  Macha knows they have to perform better in St. Louis in a four game series which starts tonight.

AUDIO: Ken Macha says homestand finished up disappointing :11

Wandy Rodriguez worked 7-innings for his second straight win.  Dave Bush took the loss for the Brewers, falling to 3-6.  Bush worked 6-innings and gave up just 2 runs, but he surrendered 6 hits and 5 walks.

Brewers outfielder Cory Hart extended his hitting streak to 15-games.  They’re in St. Louis to face the Cardinals tonight.

Wolf’s season long pitching slump continues

June 10, 2010 By Bill Scott

It sounds like a broken record, but the Milwaukee Brewers are once again not getting what they bargained for when they signed free agent left-hander Randy Wolf to a 3-year deal worth $29.75 million.

Wolf gave up 5-home runs to the Chicago Cubs last night and the Brewers lost 9-4 at Miller Park.  Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto each homered twice and Derrek Lee clubbed his 300th career home run in the win. [Read more…]

Brewers miss opportunities, fall to Marlins

June 4, 2010 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers stranded 12 base runners last night, falling to the Florida Marlins 3-2 in Miami, dropping 3 of 4 in the series.

Josh Johnson extended his streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 31 before finally allowing one in the 7th inning.

The loss spoiled the return of lefty Chris Capuano to the mound.  Capuano was making his first start since September of 2007 after a second Tommy John surgery.  Capuano went 3 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and he’s glad it’s over. [Read more…]
