The Milwaukee Brewers were swept by both Atlanta and Philadelphia, losing all 6-games on their home stand, capped off by a 4-2 setback last night at Miller Park.  The Brewers were outscored 51-20 in the 6-home games and fell to 4-14 at home this season.  Infielder Casey McGehee said he can’t explain the struggles.

Cole Hamels pitched into the 7th inning to earn his 4th win (4-2) of the season.  Hamels allowed 6-hits, 3 walks and struck out 3 in the Philadelphia win.  Casey McGehee and Corey Hart both homered in the loss.

The natives are growing restless and many are calling for Ken Macha’s (pictured)  job.  But McGehee said the struggles have nothing to do with Macha.

Dave Bush started in place of Doug Davis and worked 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits.  Bush took the loss and fell to 1-4.

Davis was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with pericarditis, which is an inflammation of lining around the heart.  The Brewers recalled outfielder Adam Stern from Triple-A Nashville.

Brewers are miserable at Miller Park

May 12, 2010 By Bill Scott

Ken MachaFollowing a 6-4 road trip out west, the Milwaukee Brewers thought they were over the hump.  The Crew thought they had momentum heading into a 6-game home stand against the Braves and Phillies.  But after the first two games, the only thing the Brewers are showing is their inability to win at home.

Atlanta followed Monday’s win with a 11-3 victory over the Brewers on Tuesday night.   The Braves came to Milwaukee with the worst road record in the National League and the 14th-ranked offense with regards to runs scored, yet they’ve put a total of 19-runs on the board in the first two games of the series.  Brewers manager Ken Macha said the Braves offense isn’t inept, regardless of where they were, coming to Milwaukee. Brewers skunked by the Cubs at Miller Park

April 26, 2010 By Bill Scott

Nobody expected the Milwaukee Brewers to roll over the Chicago Cubs like they did the Pirates in a 3-game series last week.  But coming off a 3-game sweep of Pittsburgh and outscoring the Pirates 36-1, the Brewers were on a roll.

Unfortunately, the Brewers starting pitching continued to struggle and they ran into some pretty good pitching by Cubs and were swept in a 3-game series at Wrigley Field.  Chicago outscored the Brewers in the series 25-4 and finished it off with a 12-2 win at Miller Park yesterday. [Read more…]

Bush pitches Brewers past Pirates

April 21, 2010 By Bill Scott

Dave BushAfter a slow start by the Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff, right hander Dave Bush tossed 7-shutout innings and led the Brewers to an easy 8-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.  It allowed the Brewers to capture their first series opener in 5 tries.

Bush allowed just 3-hits and 4 walks in picking up his first win of the season.  He lowered his ERA to 2.41 on the season.  Catcher Greg Zaunn said Bush was outstanding.

Corey Hart homered for the Brewers and Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee each drove in a pair of runs.

Brewers blow 8th inning lead, fall to Cubs

April 15, 2010 By Bill Scott

With two outs and nobody on in the 8th inning for the Chicago Cubs, it appeared the Milwaukee Brewers 3-run lead was going to hold and theseries would be even at a game apiece.  That’s when things went south.

LaTroy Hawkins allowed a single, two walks and then two more singles and the Cubs turned the deficit in to a 7-6 win.  It’s the walks that are most upsetting to Hawkins.

Late home run beats the Brewers

April 10, 2010 By Bill Scott

Nick Stavinoha’s 2-run pinch hit homer in the 9th off of closer Trevor Hoffman gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 5-4 come from behind win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Friday night.

The home run came in Stavinoha’s first plate appearance of the season.

It’s the first blow save of the season for Hoffman (0-1), who converted his first two save chances this season.

Matt Holliday also clubbed a 2-run homer for the Cardinals, in the 6th off of starter Dave Bush, to pull St. Louis to within one run (4-3).  Bush did a number on one of baseball’s best hitters, Albert Pujols.  Pujols went 0 for 3 with a strikeout.

Game 2 of the series is this afternoon.

Gallardo named Brewers opening day starter

March 30, 2010 By Bill Scott

Yovani GallardoRight handed pitcher Yovani Gallardo was officially named the Milwaukee Brewers opening day starter yesterday.

Gallardo was 13-12 with a 3.73 ERA last season.  He’ll make his first opening day start when the Brewers face the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park on Monday.

The next three spots in the rotation go to left handed pitchers Randy Wolf and Doug Davis, along with right hander Dave Bush.

Manager Ken Macha held off on naming a fifth starter because the Brewers won’t need one for a couple of weeks.
