Biadasz to return to Badgers

January 4, 2019 By Bill Scott

Tyler Biadasz

Wisconsin Badger center Tyler Biadasz was considering turning pro and had put his name into the ring for evaluation.  UW announced this week that Biadasz would not be turning pro and would return to Madison for the 2019 season.

Teammate David Edwards announced that he would forgo his final season to enter the 2019 NFL Draft but the consensus first team all-Big Ten pick went the other way.  When asked after the Pinstripe Bowl if Biadasz thought he was ready for the NFL, he said yes.  But now it looks like an extra year of seasoning is the choice.

Biadasz’s return gives the Badgers four linemen back that started games in 2018.  That group includes Cole Van Lanen, Jon Dietzen and Logan Bruss.

Wisconsin losing an offensive lineman to the Draft

January 2, 2019 By Bill Scott

David Edwards

The Wisconsin Badgers is already losing seniors Michael Deiter and Beau Benzschawel to the 2019 NFL Draft.  Now junior tackle David Edwards announced this week that he will put his name into the upcoming draft.

Edwards recently tweeted, “After careful consideration, I’ve decided to forgo my final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft.  I’ve had the chance of a lifetime to call myself a Badger and it’s hard to leave behind something that means so much to me, but it’s always been my dream to play pro football.  I couldn’t be more excited to pursue the opportunity.”

Edwards missed the last three games of the season, including the Pinstripe Bowl, with a shoulder injury.  As a sophomore, Edwards earned All-America honors from multiple outlets and was a consensus second-team All-Big Ten selection.  He checked out his potential draft status and received a second round grade before returning for his junior season in Madison.

Redshirt freshman Logan Bruss took over at right tackle when Edwards was out and will start spring ball as the No. 1 right tackle.

The Badgers could also lose a fourth starter soon.  Center Tyler Biadasz is going through the process of making a decision to return or not.  ESPN Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr., had him rated as the number-4 center prospect among eligible players.  After last week’s Pinstripe Bowl, Biadasz said he’s ready for the NFL.  He’ll have until Jan. 14 to make a decision.

Badgers land six first-team All-Big Ten honorees

November 28, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin Badgers saw 11 players earn All-Big Ten recognition as the conference announced its postseason awards winners this week.

Sophomore running back Jonathan Taylor, the nation’s leading rusher, was named Ameche-Dayne Big Ten Running Back of the Year, while one of his primary blockers, senior guard Michael Deiter, was tabbed as Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Taylor and Deiter were among four consensus first-team All-Big Ten selections for the Badgers, along with senior guard Beau Benzschawel and sophomore center Tyler Biadasz.  Junior tackle David Edwards and senior linebacker T.J. Edwards, selected by a panel of league media, gave UW a total of six first-team All-Big Ten picks overall.

Kasl leaving Badgers to focus on academics (AUDIO)

August 2, 2018 By Bill Scott

Patrick Kasl

Patrick Kasl was expected to open Wisconsin’s football training camp on Thursday as the number-2 right tackle.  But those plans have changed.

Kasl met with coach Paul Chryst to tell him he is giving up football.  The redshirt sophomore is seeking to major in biomedical engineering.

Kasl missed a lot of practice time in the spring because of school.

The Wyoming, Minnesota native took over for David Edwards in the third quarter of the Orange Bowl when Edwards suffered a foot injury.

With Kasl gone, the Badgers are expected to open camp with redshirt freshman Logan Bruss as the backup at right tackle to Edwards.

Five Wisconsin football players earned A.P. All-America honors on Monday, the most since 2010 when they also had five.

Inside linebacker T.J. Edwards earned the Badgers only 1st team honor.  Running back Jonathan Taylor and TE Troy Fumagali were named to the second team and offensive lineman David Edwards (RT) and Beau Benzschawel (RG) were named to the third team.

Edwards is the first UW defensive player to earn 1st team honors by the AP since defensive end Erasmus James in 2004.  He recorded 75 tackles (11 for loss), two sacks, four interceptions and one touchdown.

Taylor (true freshman) finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting over the weekend.  He ranks third nationally with 1,847 yards rushing and has 13 touchdowns to his credit.

Fumagali finished with 43 receptions for 516 yards and four scores.

Edwards and Benzschawel both started all 13 games on the right side of the Badgers offensive line, paving the way for Taylor’s outstanding season.
