Packers re-sign Goode at long snapper

November 15, 2017 By Bill Scott

After more issues with the kicking operation, the Green Bay Packers released long snapper Derek Hart and signed veteran Brett Goode for another go-around.

Goode suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and was put on injured reserve.  The Packers then worked out an injury settlement with Goode, allowing him to become a free agent.

The two sides agreed to a four-week settlement, meaning the Packers could re-sign Goode three weeks after that period ended.

The Packers had signed Taybor Pepper in his place, but Pepper landed on injured reserve as well after suffering an ankle injury in practice.

Long snapper number three was Hart, but he struggled with a handful of snaps, resulting in some continued problems in the kicking operation.

Goode doesn’t give the Packers the speed to cover punts, but his long snapping has been rock solid during his entire stay in Green Bay and the Packers could use some consistency in that area during the final seven games of the regular season.

Packers announce roster moves, Biegel set to make debut

November 3, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers made a series of roster moves on Friday, starting with the activation of linebacker Vince Biegel from reserve/physically unable to perform.  In addition, they signed long snapper Derek Hart to the active roster.

The Packers also signed cornerback Donatello Brown to the active roster from the practice squad, signed TE Emanuel Byrd to the practice squad and placed safety Kentrell Brice and long snapper Taybor Pepper on injured reserve.

Biegel’s activation paves the way for the former Badger to make his NFL debut on Monday night when the Packers face the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.

Packers kicking operation trying to put “Family Night” behind them (AUDIO)

August 8, 2017 By Bill Scott

Packers Special Teams Coach Ron Zook

Nobody is certain why the field goal unit struggled during Family Night last Saturday, but those involved, Mason Crosby, Derek Hart and Justin Vogel are looking for the next opportunity.

The next chance comes Thursday night when the Green Bay Packers open the preseason against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field.

Mason Crosby made 22 of 23 field goals during the first week of training camp, then made just 5 of 11 to close out Family Night on Saturday.

“I felt fine,” Hart said.  “I felt comfortable.  I think those guys felt comfortable, too.  I think it was just a chemistry thing.  We work on it every day in practice and stuff.  Maybe the setting had a little bit to do with it, but that’s why we do that.  So we can go through that and step into the game and feel fine.” [Read more…]

Crosby off to a solid start in Training Camp

August 2, 2017 By Bill Scott

Mason Crosby

Mason Crosby is once again adjusting to a new long snapper and new holder during training camp and so far, so good.

The Green Bay Packers are going with Derek Hart as their new long snapper and new punter Justin Vogel will handle holding duties for Crosby.  While the operation needs to be precise, the three have plenty of time and opportunity to get the reps necessary to hit the ground running.

That’s what Crosby has done in training camp, hitting 14 of his first 15 field goal opportunities in the first week.

Crosby knows the more reps they get, the better things will look.  Timing is the big thing and Crosby admitted that trust is a huge factor as well.  He has to trust that the operation will be the same every time so he can focus on kicking.

Crosby has registered 10 straight 100-point seasons and his 1,267 career points, ranks number one on the all-time franchise scoring list.  His list of accomplishments is a long one.  And the good thing for the Packers, there appears to be a lot more where that came from.

Packers interview controversial running back Joe Mixon

April 1, 2017 By Bill Scott

Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon was barred from attending the NFL’s scouting combine because he punched a woman in the face back in 2014.

The Green Bay Packers brought Mixon to Green Bay for an interview.  Several teams have taken Mixon off of their draft boards, but the Packers are in need of running back help and Mixon has been one of the best in college football over the past couple of seasons.

Mixon received a deferred one-year sentence and was ordered to undergo counseling.  He was also ordered to serve 100 hours of community service and was suspended for the 2014 season.

Upon his return, Mixon has put together back-to-back strong seasons and rushed for 1,274 yards and 10 [Read more…]
