Bishop chooses Minnesota

June 25, 2013 By Bill Scott

Desmond Bishop

Desmond Bishop

It’s a move that is becoming all too familiar for Packers fans.  Once a players time is done in Green Bay,  their eyes turn to the Minnesota Vikings.  Add Desmond Bishop to that list.

After being released by the Packers last Monday, Bishop spent rest of the week visiting possible destinations for 2013.  Over the weekend, Bishop narrowed his list to the Vikings, the New York Giants, and the Kansas City Chiefs.  Monday, news broke the Vikings would be the choice.

Bishop joins a list of Packers to make the trip west that includes big names like Brett Favre, Greg Jennings, Ryan Longwell and Darren Sharper, and to a lesser extent, Robert Ferguson and Javon Walker.

The deal for Bishop is believed to be for 1-year and roughly $1.35 million.

Packers cut LB Desmond Bishop

In a move that has been rumored since the NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers parted ways with linebacker Desmond Bishop Monday by releasing him.

Rumors surfaced during this past April’s draft the Packers were looking to trade the linebacker for a draft pick but nothing surfaced.  Last week, Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel had a story the the team was still looking to trade Bishop and would release them if they couldn’t.

Bishop played six seasons with the Packers playing in 69-games, including 26-starts.  He was on injured-reserve all of last season when he suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason.

The Packers also released linebacker D.J Smith earlier this off-season.  Smith was also on the IR last year after suffering a knee injury in week 6.  A.J Hawk and Brad Jones will likely enter camp as the top-2 inside linebackers on the depth chart.

Packers could part with Bishop

June 12, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers could be moving on without linebacker Desmond Bishop.

Desmond Bishop

The story was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and says Bishop will be released unless the two sides are able to restructure his deal or pull off a trade.  Bishop is set to make more than $3.4-million this season, part of the four-year, $19-million deal he signed in January 2011.

Bishop told the JS that he is “completely” healthy and added that there’s still a possibility he could be back with the Packers.

Bishop tore his right hamstring before the start of last season and missed the entire season.  Brad Jones took over and was later re-signed at $11.75 million over three years.  A.J. Hawk also accepted a pay cut and is set to make $10.6-million over the next three years.

Bishop said he’ll be ready to participate by training camp.  We’ll see if that will be with the Packers or another NFL team.

WRN Sports Daily

May 30, 2013 By Bill Scott

In today’s WRN Sports Daily, I take a look back at the key topics from this weeks Green Bay Packers’ OTA’s.

The Packers are putting more emphasis on creating fumbles.  Reserve tight end Andrew Quarless is back and looking to contribute this season.

Could there be a training camp battle between Brad Jones and Desmond Bishop at Inside Linebacker.

And there’s been some high praise for rookie corner Casey Hayward from coach Mike McCarthy.

Packers re-sign LB Brad Jones

March 21, 2013 By Bill Scott

Brad Jones took his tour around the NFL in free agency, then he returned to Green Bay to talk with the Packers and a deal was struck.  Jones

Brad Jones

Brad Jones

decided to resign with the Packers, despite receiving significant interest from a number of other NFL teams.

Jones was a big piece of the puzzle for the Packers defense last season after both Desmond Bishop and D.J. Smith were lost to season-ending injuries.  Jones played alongside A.J. Hawk in the Packers base defense and it was Jones that served as the lone linebacker in the dime.  Jones’ final numbers were 77 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 4 pass break-ups in 12-games.

Jones was a 7th round draft pick in the 2009 NFL draft by the Packers out of Colorado.

August 24, 2012 By Bill Scott

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed two injuries following

As it turns out, Crabtree escaped from any serious injury.  McCarthy said he’ll have a chance to make it back for the final preseason game against Kansas City this Thursday night at Lambeau Field.

McCarthy didn’t offer much information on Ryan Pickett, other than to say he’ll be hard-pressed to make it back for the Chiefs game.
