Jones leads Packers to rout of Lions

September 21, 2020 By Bill Scott

Aaron Jones

Aaron Jones had a big day, helping the Green Bay Packers roll to a 42-21 win over the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

Jones rushed for a career-high 168 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a 75-yard TD run to start the second half.  He also had a team-high 68 receiving yards on four catches, combining for 236 all-purpose yards in the win.

The Packers (2-0) won their eighth straight home opener and improved to 8-0 against the NFC North under coach Matt LaFleur’s tenure in Green Bay.

Aaron Rodgers completed 18 of 30 for 240 yards and two touchdowns and the Packers have now put up 85 points in the first two weeks of the season.  The Packers are just the eighth team in the Super bowl era to score at lest 40 points in each [Read more…]

Packers rebound to beat Lions, secure number-2 seed in NFC Playoffs

December 30, 2019 By Bill Scott

Mason Crosby

The Green Bay Packers had everything to play for with a first round playoff bye on the line, but it looked like the Detroit Lions were the team that had a sense of urgency.

The Lions jumped out to an early lead and took a 17-3 advantage at halftime before falling to the Packers 23-20 in the regular season finale at Ford Field.

The Packers (13-3) came out flat and managed just 136 total net yards in the first half.  Quarterback Aaron Rodgers completed just 6 of 18 for 90 yards and a passer rating of 50.7 in the half.

Rodgers struggled with overthrows, finishing with 16 overthrown balls for the game.  That is a career high and a NFL high for overthrows.

Rodgers finished 27 of 55 for 323 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.  He connected on less than half of his pass attempts for the second [Read more…]

Packers will try to avoid a letdown in Detroit

December 27, 2019 By Bill Scott

Matt LaFleur

There’s a lot at stake and plenty to play for when the Green Bay Packers square off against the Detroit Lions in the regular season finale on Sunday.  But, can the Packers muster up enough ambition to lay it all on the line against a Lions team that has lost eight straight games and enters with a
3-11-1 record?

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has wasted no time in declaring the importance of this game to his players.

“This is a playoff game for us,” LaFleur said.  “There’s no doubt about it.  That’s the way we’re approaching it.  Because if you’re able to take care of business and win this one, you get a week off.  Our guys have to understand that.”

A win for the Packers on Sunday guarantees them no worse than a 2-seed, which brings with it a week [Read more…]

Crosby has been spot on since debacle in Detroit (AUDIO)

December 27, 2019 By Bill Scott

Mason Crosby

The last time Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby kicked in Detroit, he missed four field goals and an extra point.  Perhaps the kick he remembers the most is his last.

With eight seconds left to play in what turned out to be a 31-23 loss, Packers coach Mike McCarthy called a timeout to get his kicker on the field for another shot.  Crosby drilled the 41-yard field goal, leaving the game with something positive in his memory bank.

The rest of that season, Crosby only missed two more field goals in 11 games.  So far this year, Crosby is 19 for 20 in field goals (95%) and 38 of 39 on extra points, not missing until Monday night’s win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Since that day at Ford Field, Crosby is 38 for 41 on field goals (92.7%) and 64 of 65 (98.5%) on extra points.

NFL officials erred in hands to the face penalty

October 15, 2019 By Bill Scott

According to an ESPN report, NFL officials erred when they called a second hands-to-the-face penalty against Detroit defensive end Trey Flowers on Monday night, allowing the Green Bay Packers to run the clock down and kick a game winning field goal.

NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent said at the league’s fall meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Tuesday after the Packers knocked off the Lions 23-22 on Monday night.

Vincent said the two controversial hands-to-the-face penalties, called against Flowers, were a topic of discussion at a meeting with the competition committee on Tuesday.

Vincent said there was one penalty that they clearly support.  The other is something that you don’t want to see called.

In his pool report, referee Clete Blakeman explained what the umpire who threw the flags, Jeff Rice, saw on the fouls. [Read more…]

Packers comeback beats Lions in MNF

October 15, 2019 By Bill Scott

Mason Crosby

Mason Crosby’s chip-shot 23-yard field goal as time expired gave the Green Bay Packers a 23-22 win over the Detroit Lions in Monday Night Football action at Lambeau Field.

After the ball sailed through the uprights, Crosby took a Lambeau Leap, the first of his 13-year career.  Or perhaps it could be called a Lambeau Lift as Crosby needed help from a teammate to climb into the stands.

Playing once again without injured wide receiver Davante Adams (turf toe), Aaron Rodgers completed 24 of 39 for 283 yards and two touchdowns.  The second of those two touchdowns went to Allen Lazard, good for the first touchdown catch in his brief two-year career. [Read more…]

Packers host Lions in MNF at Lambau Field tonight

October 14, 2019 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers face the Detroit Lions with first place on the line in Monday Night Football action at Lambeau Field tonight.

The Packers currently lead the NFC North (4-1).  Minnesota is next (4-2) and Detroit, which had their bye week off last week, is 2-1-1.

The Lions have won four straight against the Packers, winning twice each of the last two seasons.

For Detroit to have a shot at a fifth straight win, they’ll likely have to scheme to hold down Packers running back Aaron Jones.  With Davante Adams out of the Green Bay lineup again this week, next in line is Jones, who rushed for more than 100 yards and scored four touchdowns against the Cowboys last week.  He combined (rushing & receiving) for more than 180 yards in the Packers win. Lang announces retirement from the NFL

March 30, 2019 By Bill Scott

#70 T.J. Lang

Pro Bowl guard T.J. Lang has decided to retire after ten NFL seasons, eight of those ten came with the Green Bay Packers.

The 31-year-old Lang spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions after signing a free agent deal prior to the start of the 2017 season.

The Lions released Lang three weeks ago, having dealt with a number of injuries during his career.  A neck injury forced Lang to finish the 2018 season on injured reserve.

Lang spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Packers after they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL draft out of Eastern Michigan.  He was a reserve on the 2010 Green Bay Super Bowl team.

Packers dig early hole and fall to Lions in Detroit

October 8, 2018 By Bill Scott

Mason Crosby

The Green Bay Packers racked up 521 yards of offense, never punted and allowed just 264 yards, yet still lost 31-23 to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday.

The Packers dug themselves a hole, training 24-0 at halftime and they didn’t get any help from their kicker.  Mason Crosby missed five kicks, four field goals and one extra point in the loss.  He had field goal misses from 41, 42, 38 and 56 yards, capping off the worst kicking day of his career.

The Packers struggled on special teams aside from Crosby’s misses.  On the Lions first punt, Kevin King had the ball go off his back and Detroit recovered on the one-yard line, setting up the first of two LeGarrette Blount 1-yard touchdown runs.

On the next kickoff, Ty Montgomery returned the ball 64 yards, only to have that called back when Josh Jones was flagged for holding on the opposite side of the field. [Read more…]

King is questionable for tonight’s game with Detroit

November 6, 2017 By Bill Scott

#20 Kevin King

Green Bay Packers rookie corner Kevin King was added to the teams injury report on Sunday with a back injury and is listed as questionable for tonight’s Monday Night contest at Lambeau Field.

King’s status for the game probably won’t be decided until about an hour before kickoff.

The Packers are expected to get safety Morgan Burnett back in their lineup.  He’s missed a couple of games with a hamstring injury.  That was expected to bring the Packers secondary back near full strength, but King’s latest injury could force the Packers coaching staff to do some more shuffling.

The Packers (4-3) will be trying to end a two-game losing streak.  They’re in a little better shape from that standpoint than the Lions are.  Detroit (3-4) is trying to put an end to a three-game slide.  Both teams are trying to keep pace with the first place Vikings (6-2), who are on bye this week.

The Packers are 25-1 over the last 26 games against the Lions in Wisconsin.  They’ll try to build on that tonight. [Read more…]
