Brewers throttled by Dodgers in series finale

August 3, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers finished their eight game road trip out west with a 5-3 record and they’ll take it.  But they finished with two straight losses, including Thursday nights 21-5 blowout loss to the Dodgers.

The Dodgers had 18 hits and clubbed seven home runs.  Brewers starter Jhoulys Chacin (10-4) gave up three of the long balls, allowing eight earned runs and not making it out of the fifth.

The 21 runs scored by the Dodgers is the most ever scored against a Brewers team.  With the hits and runs piling up, manager Craig Counsell once again went to a couple of position players to mop up, Hernan Perez and Erik Kratz.

The Brewers did score first after Christian Yelich doubled and eventually scored on a pair of wild pitches from Clayton Kershaw. [Read more…]

The Milwaukee Brewers fell out of first place in the NL Central Division, falling to the Chicago Cubs 7-2 in 11 innings on Monday night at Miller Park.

It’s the seventh straight loss for the Brewers in their series with the Cubs this season, falling to 1-8 overall against their rivals to the south.

Ryan Braun took a home run away from Cubs catcher Wilson Contreras in the sixth inning, but the Cubs finally got to Josh Hader in the 8th.  They tied the game 2-2 when Jason Heyward singled to drive in Ben Zobrist.

Anthony Rizzo’s go-ahead solo home run ignited a five-run 11th inning to lift the Cubs to the victory.  The Cubs scored all five runs off of reliever Matt Albers. [Read more…]

Brewers make moves, send Arcia to the minors

The Milwaukee Brewers made a series of roster moves today.  The biggest of which came when they sent shortstop Orlando Arcia to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Arcia has been mired in a season-long offensive slump, hitting .194 with two home runs and 13 RBI.  In 139 at bats, Arcia has 34 strikeouts and only seven walks.

The Brewers also sent right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopez to AAA Colorado Springs.  They recalled infielder Eric Sogard from Colorado Springs and right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser from AA Biloxi.

The Brewers also made a trade, acquiring minor league catcher Erik Kratz from the New York Yankees for a player to be named or cash.  Kratz was hitting .269 in 17 games with AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  He had four home runs and six RBI.

To make room for Kratz, the Brewers designated catcher Jett Bandy for assignment.
