Ersan Ilyasova missed just two shots, connected on five 3-pointers, and scored a career-high 34 points as the Milwaukee Bucks held off a second half charge by the Indiana Pacers to win the Central Division battle, 111-107, at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Milwaukee built a 23-point first quarter lead as they began the game on a 34-11 run. During that stretch, the Bucks made 14-of-19 shots, including eight straight, as they won for the second consecutive game. It’s only the fifth win in the past 18 outings.

All five Bucks scored in double-figured, led by Ilyasova. Khris Middleton had 17 points, followed by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 16. As a team, Milwaukee outshot Indiana 53-percent to 42-percent.

The Pacers rallied back to within two in the final 20-seconds and trailed 110-107 when George Hill’s attempt to tie the game rattled out of the basket with less than two seconds remaining. Hill (24) and backcourt mate C.J. Miles (26) combined for 50 points.

Milwaukee returns to .500 with a 36-36 record and maintains its position as the sixth-seed in the Eastern Conference standings. The Bucks trail fifth-seeded Washington by four, while moving 2.5 games ahead of Miami. The loss drops Indiana a half-game back of Boston for the eighth and final playoff spot. [Read more…]

In desperate need of a win after six straight losses, the Milwaukee Bucks rallied to beat the Miami Heat 89-88 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center Tuesday night.

Milwaukee trailed 85-71 before scoring 14 straight points, part of an 18-3 run to close out the game, which ended in dramatic fashion.

Down by two guard Jerryd Bayless forced a jump ball against the Heat’s Michael Beasley with just over 10 seconds remaining, then won the jump despite giving up six inches in height. After Bayless missed a layup, Zaza Pachulia saved the ball right to Khris Middleton, who buried the game-winning three-pointer. [Read more…]

Bucks post-trade struggles continue

March 4, 2015 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks

Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks fell to 2-5 since sending their leading scorer, Brandon Knight to Phoenix as part of a 3-team trade at the February NBA trade deadline.  They lost their 3rd straight road game last night, 106-95 to the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

Denver had just fired coach Brian Shaw a few hours earlier, after the Nuggets hat lost 6-straight games and 10-straight at home.  Melvin Hunt took over on the bench last night, on an interim basis.

But the Bucks have their own issues.  Their defense has faltered and the offensive punch has fallen off as well.

Danilo Gallinari scored a season-high 26 points, Ty Lawson had 16 points and 10 assists and Kenneth Faried had 14 points and 14 rebounds to lead Denver.

The Bucks (32-28) have dropped five of their last six.  Ersan Ilyasova had 21 to lead the Bucks.  Khris Middleton added 20 points and seven rebounds and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 19 points in 11 rebounds.

The Bucks close out their four-game road trip at Golden State tonight.

Bucks reportedly worth $600M

January 22, 2015 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 2New Milwaukee Bucks owners Marc Lasry and Wes Edens purchased the team for $550 million.  Less than a year later, they are reportedly now worth $600 million.

Forbes Magazine came out yesterday with the new valuations of NBA franchises.  It says the average NBA team is now worth $1.1 billion, up 74% from a year ago.  Forbes reported it was the biggest one-year gain since it began valuing teams in the four major U.S. sports leagues back in 1998.

The reason for the jump in values is the new television contracts the league signed.  Those new deals with ESPN and Time Warner will start with the 2016-17 season.  They are worth $930 million a year, almost three times the value of the current contracts.

Bucks vs. Utah

The Bucks return to the court tonight against the Utah Jazz at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.  It’s the start of the second half of the season for the Bucks, who finished the first half with a 21-20 record.

Ersan Ilyasova is expected to return to the starting lineup tonight, after missing roughly half of the teams first 41 games with a broken nose and a concussion.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has made quite an impact in his first 1+ season in the league.  The 6’11 swingman has been invited to participate in the NBA’s Slam Dunk Competition during its upcoming All-Star weekend.

Bucks rally against Toronto falls short

January 20, 2015 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 2Brandon Knight missed a potential game-tying three-pointer with 7.9 seconds left to play as the Milwaukee Bucks fell to the Toronto Raptors
92-89 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Monday night.

The Bucks are now 0-2 against Toronto and have dropped 6-straight against the Raptors overall.

The Bucks were down nine at the half, 53-44 and eventually drew even at 71-71 early in the fourth quarter.  They took the lead, 76-75 on a O.J. Mayo three-pointer at the 6:31 mark and 78-77 with 5:39 to play.  That’s when Toronto went on a 7-0 run and the Bucks would only be able to get within 1-point the rest of the way.

Knight finished with a team-high 20 points, while Ilyasova, playing in his second game back from a concussion, added 14.

Kyle Lowry had 18 points to lead six Toronto Raptors in double figures.  The Raptors grabbed 20 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.
