Pitcher Jimmy Nelson put together another solid outing and helped the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 4-1, ending a six-game losing streak.

Nelson (9-9) allowed 3-hits and an un-earned run in 6 2/3 innings.  Over his last eight starts, Nelson is 6-1 with a 1.88 E-R-A and hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last 20 2/3 innings.

It marked the fifth straight game that Nelson pitched into the seventh inning.

Jeremy Jeffress and Will Smith then got the game to the ninth with Francisco Rodriguez coming on.  He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to save his 24th game in 24 chances this season.

Game three of the four game series is tonight at Miller Park.

Wily Peralta was reinstated earlier Tuesday after a two-month stay on the disabled list and pitched six solid innings to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-2 win over the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Peralta (2-5) allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, to go along with two walks and three strike outs.  It’s the first win for Peralta since May 6.

Gerardo Parra did the bulk of the work offensively, finishing a home run shy of the cycle.  He also scored three of the Brewers five runs.  Adam Lind also returned to the lineup and drove in a pair of runs, helping the Brewers snap a three-game losing streak.

The loss goes to Matt Cain who fell to 2-2.

Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 23rd save in as many opportunities after blanking the Giants in the 9th inning.

The series is tied at a game apiece with the rubber match this afternoon in San Francisco.

Milwaukee Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez has been selected to the National League All-Star team for the second consecutive season and the sixth time in his career.

K-Rod is a perfect 18 for 18 in save opportunities with an ERA of 1.45.  Going back to 2014, Rodriguez has converted 23 consecutive saves.  He needs one more save to tie Jeff Reardon for ninth on the all-time list with 367.

Manager Craig Counsell told Rodriguez of the honor before last nights series opener against the Atlanta Braves and said it is well deserved.

The Major League Baseball all-star starters were released on Sunday and there were no Milwaukee Brewers on the list of National League starters.

The reserves and pitching staffs will be announced in both leagues tonight.

The Brewers have a few players that have a chance to land a spot as a reserve.  The best chance comes from closer Francisco Rodriguez, who is a perfect 18 for 18 in save situations this season.

Outfielder Ryan Braun goes into the final week for the all-star break with 15 home runs and 54 RBI.  His average stands at .277, but that number has been steadily climbing.

Adam Lind, who tied a club record by driving in at least one run in nine straight games, is also a possibility for the Brewers.

Milwaukee and Pittsburgh waited through a pair of rain delays and eventually, the Brewers pulled out a 2-0 win at PNC Park in Pittsburgh in the series opener on Monday night.

The two teams played much of the game through rain and sat through a pair of delays that totaled 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Jimmy Nelson, who has made it a habit to struggle in the first inning, set the Pirates down 1-2-3 in the first last night.  He went on to pitch six shutout innings, allowing just four hits in posting his third victory (3-6) of the season. [Read more…]

The Milwaukee Brewers entered Sunday’s series finale at Target Field in Minneapolis with a chance to sweep their first series of the season. Minnesota pitcher Mike Pelfrey had something else in mind.

Pelfrey scattered eight Brewer hits (7 singles) over eight innings, walking one and striking out seven, improving to 5-2 on the season.

Minnesota scored both of its runs in the second inning.  Torii Hunter led off with a walk and scored on Eddie Rosario’s double.  Rosario scored when Eduardo Escobar followed with a triple.

Mike Fiers took the loss for the Brewers, working just 4 1/3 innings.  He allowed seven hits, two runs while walking three and striking out three.  Fiers fell to 2-6.

After Fiers left, Neal Cotts, Michael Blazek and Corey Knebel combined to pitch 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.  The Brewers’ bullpen has now allowed just two runs over the last 35 innings.
