Zombo headed for Kansas City

April 4, 2013 By Bill Scott

After a promising rookie season in Green Bay, outside linebacker Frank Zombo has

Frank Zombo

Frank Zombo

been hit hard by injuries.  After four seasons in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers have given up on Zombo and he’ll get his next shot with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Zombo went undrafted out of Central Michigan, yet tallied 38 tackles and 4 sacks in 13 games with the Packers in his rookie season.  He missed six games that season with a knee injury, but returned for the Super Bowl to sack Ben Roethlisberger in the Packers win.

Injuries then hit Zombo hard and he played in just 12 games with 1-sack.  The list of injuries included a broken scapula, hyperextended knee, hamstring strain.  After missing off-season workouts, the preseason and 9-regular season games, it was too late for Zombo to make much of an impact with the defense.

Joining the Chiefs, he’s re-united with former packers executive John Dorsey, who is now the general manager in Kansas City.

The Green Bay Packers placed six players on injured reserve, two players on

Andrew Quarless

the physically unable to perform (PUP) list and they released two others to get to the 75-player roster limit today.

The two players released are FB Jon Hoese and DE Jarius Wynn.

The Packers placed ILB Desmond Bishop, RB Du’ane Bennett, TE DeMarco Cosby, DE Johnny Jones, G Ray Dominguez and WR Shaky Smithson on Injured Reserve.

TE Andrew Quarless and OLB Frank Zombo will begin the season on the PUP list.

Sherrod likely headed for PUP

August 21, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers were hoping former first round draft pick Derek

Derek Sherrod

Sherrod would battle for the starting left tackle job in training camp.  Now it appears the Packers will likely have to settle for Sherrod’s return no later than mid-season.

Sherrod broke two bones in his lower right leg last December 18.  Outside linebacker Frank Zombo (hamstring) and tight end Andrew Quarless (Knee) are all on the physically unable to perform list.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy hinted at his Monday press conference that all three could open the regular season on the PUP list.  All three still have yet to pass their training camp physicals.

Under the PUP rules, if a player is on that list to start the season, he must remain there for the first six weeks.  They’ll then get the next couple of weeks to get ready to play.

McCarthy said all three players will be at the wire.

Zombo out again

November 8, 2011 By Bill Scott

If Green Bay Packers linebacker Frank Zombo didn’t have bad luck, he’d have

Frank Zombo

no luck at all.

Zombo, who has already missed time this season with a broken scapula and a hyper-extended knee, will likely sit out the upcoming Monday night game against the Minnesota Vikings with a hamstring injury that he sustained in the win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.

Zombo returns, could play this week

October 6, 2011 By Bill Scott

Second year Green Bay Packers linebacker Frank Zombo returned to practice

Frank Zombo

on Wednesday.  His return comes six weeks after suffering a broken scapula in pregame warm ups before the August 19th preseason game against Arizona.  The original time-table for his return was supposed to be 8 to 12 weeks.

There’s a chance Zombo could play on Sunday night when the Packers face the Falcons at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

January 13, 2011 By Bill Scott

When it comes to on field discipline, the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons are two of the better teams in the NFL.
