Brett Favre will receive this ring at halftime Sunday!

Brett Favre will be honored at Lambeau Field on Sunday.  The Pro Football Hall of Fame will honor the 2016 enshrine at halftime of the Green Bay Packers game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Favre will become the third member of the Class of 2016 to receive his Ring of Excellence this season.  Orlando Pace was honored in Los Angeles in Week 2 and Kevin Green during Week 4 in Pittsburgh.

Favre will wear his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket and his Bronzed Bust will be temporarily removed from the Hall of Fame to make its way to Green Bay for the ceremony.

Let’s play two: Ernie Banks passes at age 83

Ernie Banks Rookie CardErnie Banks, known world-wide as Mr. Cub, became the Chicago Cubs’ first African-American player on Sept. 17, 1953.  He went on to become a two-time National League Most Valuable Player and 14-time all-star.

Mr. Cub passed away on Friday at the age of 83.

Banks, who hit 512 home runs and collected 1,636 RBI, was inducted in the MLB Hall of Fame in 1977.

Renowned for his sunny disposition, Banks loved the game and even when the Cubs were struggling, would proclaim “Let’s play two!”.  Banks was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom during ceremonies at the White House in 2013, recognizing his goodwill.

Banks started his professional career in 1950 with the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues.  He took two years off to serve in the military, then he joined the Cubs. [Read more…]

Robinson thrilled to finally make Hall of Fame (AUDIO)

come.  But after nearly 40 years, Robinson has been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Robinson played 10 of his 12 seasons with the Packers.  His induction comes with the support of the senior committee.  That support got Robinson to the dance and the Hall of Fame selection committee agreed and voted him in.

At 71 years of age, there’s a great sense of relief. He was all-NFL three times, a three-time pro bowler  who had 27 career interceptions and was named to the NFL’s all-decade team of the 1960’s. [Read more…]

Pro Football Hall of Fame announces finalists

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced its 15 finalists today.

Among the group is Green Bay Packers outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene who finished a 15-year playing career (1985-99) ranked third all-time in sacks and first among linebackers with 160.

Greene is a five-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro selection (’94, ’96), leading the league in sacks both of those years.

Greene is entering his fourth season with the Packers in 2012 as outside linebackers coach, his first full-time NFL coaching job.

The group includes four first-time eligible nominees: G Larry Allen, T Jonathan Ogden, DT Warren Sapp and DE Michael Strahan.

It also includes 9 other finalists besides Greene that didn’t make the final cut last year: RB Jerome Bettis, WR’s Tim Brown, Chris Carter and Andre Reed, G Will Shields, DE Charles Haley, CB Aeneas Williams along with Bill Parcells and Ed DeBartolo, Jr.

The group will be whittled to no more than five inductees the day before the Super Bowl.

Two senior nominees, former Chiefs and Oilers nose tackle Curley Culp and former Packers and Redskins linebacker Dave Robinson, are voted upon separately, for a maximum class of seven.
