Six Packers named All-Pro

January 8, 2021 By Bill Scott

Six Green Bay Packers players were named to the Associated Press All-Pro team on Friday, including QB Aaron Rodgers, WR Davante Adams, T David Bakhtiari and C Corey Linsley named to the first team.

Linebacker Za’Darius Smith and cornerback Jaire Alexander were also named second team All-Pro.

The four first-team selections are the most the Packers have had since 1967, which is the last year the Packers had two offensive linemen make the first team (Forrest Gregg and Kerry Kramer).

It’s the fourth All-Pro selection for Rodger, who was previously voted first-team All-Pro in 2011, 2012 and 2014.  He started all 16 games and completed 372 of 526 passes (70.7%) for 4,299 yards and 48 touchdowns with only five interceptions.  His 121.5 passer rating is the second-best single-season mark in NFL history behind only his own 122.5 rating in 2011. Packers Have Seven Players Voted To 2020 NFC Pro Bowl Team

December 22, 2020 By Bill Scott

David Bakhtiari

The Green Bay Packers had seven players named to the 2020 NFC Pro Bowl team on Monday.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers headlines the squad as the starting quarterback.  It marks the ninth Pro Bowl selection of his career, tying Brett Favre and the late Forrest Gregg for the most Pro Bowl selections as a Packer.  Rodgers leads the league in passer rating (118.0), passing touchdowns (40) and fewest interceptions thrown (four – min. 350 pass attempts).

Davante Adams was voted to his fourth straight NFC Pro Bowl squad, making him only the second Packers WR to earn four-plus consecutive Pro Bowls.  James Lofton made six straight appearances from 1980-85.  Adams leads the league in receptions per game (8.2) and receiving yards per game (98.8) and ranks No. 2 in receiving TD’s with 14.  He posted those numbers despite missing 2+ games because of injury.

David Bakhtiari earned his third trip to the Pro Bowl and his second straight as an original selection.  He’s joined by fellow offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins, who earned his first selection.  Jenkins became the Packers first offensive lineman to start a game at guard, center and tackle in the same season since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Adams held out of practice for second straight day

November 20, 2020 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

After suffering an ankle injury in last Sunday’s win over Jacksonville, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams didn’t practice for a second straight day with the team on Thursday.

As a veteran player, the Packers will likely give Adams right up until game time on Sunday before deciding whether or not he’ll play against the Indianapolis Colts.  Adams did participate on a limited basis on Wednesday and told reporters he was trending toward playing against the Colts.

Meanwhile, starting corners Jaire Alexander (concussion) and Kevin King (quad) both practiced on Thursday and could be on track to start against the Colts.  They haven’t played together since Oct. 5.

Packers display plenty of offense in season opening win (AUDIO)

September 14, 2020 By Bill Scott

Packers beat Vikings in empty U.S. Bank Stadium

When the Green Bay Packers didn’t draft a wide receiver in the NFL Draft, many thought the Packers offense would be in trouble.  But a second year in Matt LaFleur’s system appears to be more important, at least after the first week of the new season.

Aaron Rodgers completed 32-of-44 for 364 yards and four touchdowns in the Packers 43-34 season opening win over the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday.  Two of the four touchdown receptions were to the Packers number-one receiver, Davante Adams.  Adams was targeted 17 times and caught 14 passes, tying Don Hutson’s 1942 franchise record of 14 receptions in a single game.

Rodgers also tossed touchdown passes to Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard, finishing with a quarterback rating of 127.5.  His four touchdown passes moved him past Eli Manning and into seventh place on the all-time list with 368.

It was a dominating offensive performance for the Packers, who racked up 522 total yards of offense in the win.  They [Read more…]

Packers routed by 49ers for second time this season

January 20, 2020 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

The Green Bay Packers knew San Francisco wanted to run the football, but they offered little in terms of stopping or even slowing the 49ers down.  The result was another lopsided contest between the two teams this season.

In November, the Packers fell behind 23-0 at halftime and went on to lose 37-8 at Levi Stadium.  On Sunday, the Packers fell behind 27-0 at halftime and lost 37-20 in the NFC Championship game.

The 49ers ran just 50 total plays from scrimmage and 42 of the 50 were running plays.  When asked why he kept calling run plays, San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said because it kept working.

The Niners racked up 285 yards on the ground.  Raheem Mostert finished with 29 carries for 220 yards and four touchdowns.  They only needed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to hand off.  He finished 6 of 8 through the air, for 77 yards.

The Packers struggled to get their offense going in the first half, totaling 51 yards rushing and 65 passing.  It wasn’t until the second half, that Aaron Rodgers would start to move the offense.  He finished [Read more…]

Packers pressure Broncos to improve to 3-0

September 23, 2019 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

The Green Bay Packers defense did it again, forcing three more turnovers and sacking quarterback Joe Flacco six times, on the way to a 27-16 win over the Denver Broncos at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

The Packers defense hasn’t been perfect, allowing 149 rushing yards against the Broncos and a 4.91 yards per carry average in the first three games.  But so far, pressure on the quarterback has made up for the inability to stop the run, giving the Packers a 3-0 start to the season.

Preston Smith led the way with three sacks, including a strip sack of Joe Flacco with rookie Rashan Gary recovering the fumble and setting up a Packers touchdown.

Za’Darius Smith had two sacks and Gary would later add the first of his career.  Second year cornerback Jaire Alexander stripped a ball away from tight end Noah Fant and recovered it at the same time.  That set up a short touchdown drive. [Read more…]

Crosby returns with exhibition games set to begin

After missing the first couple of weeks of training camp, Green Bay Packers veteran kicker Mason Crosby (calf) has been cleared to return to practice.  Crosby started the season on the non-football injury list.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Sunday that Crosby has been kicking on his own and doesn’t expect there to be any limitations.

Crosby said it was his kicking leg that bothered him, but he had no pain when kicking.  He said the issue came when he would try to run.

King sidelined with hamstring

Cornerback Kevin King was on the sidelines for the Packers 1 hour, 18 minute workout on Sunday.  After [Read more…]

Rodgers leads Packers to first road victory

December 24, 2018 By Bill Scott

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers put together his best performance of the season, leading the Green Bay Packers to a 44-38 overtime victory the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday.

Rodgers passed for 442 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for two more scores as the Packers won their first road game (1-7) of the season.  They avoided being the first team since the 1958 squad to go winless on the road during the season.

The Packers trailed by 15-points in the fourth quarter before coming from behind to win.

Davante Adams caught the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime.  Jamaal Williams also rushed for 95 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown and caught six passes for 61 yards, improving to 6-8-1 on the season.

New York’s Jason Myers booted a late field goal to force overtime for the Jets.  But the Packers won the coin toss and marched 75 yards for the game winning touchdown, not giving the Jets a chance at the ball in OT. [Read more…]

Packers upset bid falls short in L.A.

October 29, 2018 By Bill Scott

Ty Montgomery

The Green Bay Packers played well enough to win, but a couple of mistakes at crucial times was once again the difference between victory and defeat.  The Packers had the Rams on the ropes, but the only remaining unbeaten team in the NFL stayed that way, beating the Packers 29-27 in Los Angeles.

The Packers defense held the Rams offense to six points in the first half and while they let up a little in the second half, they deserved a better fate.

The Packers did allow the Rams to take the lead late, on a Greg Zuerlein 34-yard field goal.  But Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was going to get the ball back with 2:05 left to play, needing only a field goal to take the lead and win.

Unfortunately for the Packers, Rodgers would never get that chance.  That’s because Ty Montgomery, who was ordered to not bring out the ensuing kickoff, did so anyway and fumbled on the play.  The Rams recovered and ran out the clock. [Read more…]

August 13, 2018 By Bill Scott

Mo Wilkerson is among those that returned to practice on Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers had a number of players return to the practice field on Sunday.

Defensive lineman Mike Daniels, corner Kevin King, left tackle David Bakhtiari and running back Aaron Jones all returned but didn’t take part in team drills.

Corner Jaire Alexander, WR Adonis-Jennings, fullback Joe Kerridge, WR Randall Cobb, TE Jimmy Graham and defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson all returned and took part in all drills.

The only three players that didn’t practice were WR Trevor Davis (hamstring), RB Devante Mays (hamstring) and safety Jermaine Whitehead (back).

The Packers hold their last open training camp practice of the week today (Monday).  The rest of the week is behind closed doors with the team set to play preseason game number two on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lambeau Field.
