The Toronto Raptors entered Friday’s game with Milwaukee having won three straight and 15 of the last 17 over the Bucks.  Last night, the Bucks said enough is enough, leading for much of the night and holding off the Raptors in overtime 122-119.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for the Bucks, but he had plenty of help.  Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe added 21 points apiece and veteran Jason Terry had 14 points, hitting 4 of 5 three-pointers in the win.

DeMar DeRozan had 33 points to lead the Raptors, who sent the game to overtime on a dunk by center Jonas Valanciunas.

The Raptors then started the overtime with five straight points, but a jumper by Antetokounmpo and three-point basket off a scramble by Jason Terry tied the game and the Bucks were back in it.

Khris Middleton added a three-pointer to cap an 8-0 run and put the Bucks in front the rest of the way.

The Bucks scored 42-points in the second quarter, hitting six three-pointers in the period.  They also got 42 points from their bench, led by Terry with his 14.  Thon Maker added 12 and Jabari Parker had 8.

The Bucks (33-25) return home to host New Orleans (32-26) in a 2 p.m. tip at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.  The Pelicans won the first meeting back on December 13, 115-108 in New Orleans.

Veteran Jason Terry will be returning to the Milwaukee Bucks for one more season, a guaranteed deal.

It means Terry will play a 19th season in the NBA and second the Bucks.  The 6’2 guard appeared in 74 games with the Bucks last season, averaging 4.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists a game.  Terry also shot 42.7% from three point range, which was the second best mark on the team.

Terry’s most important role may have been in the locker room, where he provided veteran leadership to a young Bucks roster.

Terry’s acquisition puts the Bucks roster back at 15 with training camp set to open on September 26.

The Milwaukee Bucks made it interesting, after digging themselves a 25-point hole.  But despite taking a two-point lead late in the fourth quarter, Toronto was able to re-compose themselves and pull out a 92-89 win at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Bucks outscored the Raptors 28-18 in the fourth quarter, but they didn’t do the little things to pull out a win.  The Bucks made just 9 of 18 free throws in the final quarter, in a game in which they lost by three.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a playoff-high 34 points, playing 47 minutes and Khris Middleton, who continued to battle illness, had 19 points and five assists.  But the two combined to make 6 of 14 free throws in the final quarter.

The Bucks took a two point lead with 2:29 left to play.  From that point, Toronto went on a 9-0 run to reclaim the momentum they had lost. [Read more…]

The Milwaukee Bucks closed out the home portion of their regular season schedule by knocking off the Charlotte Hornets 89-79 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Monday night.

With the win, the Bucks (42-39) clinched a winning record and locked up at least a sixth-place finish in the Eastern Conference.  It means the Bucks will likely see a first-round playoff matchup against third-seeded Toronto.

Although chances are slim, the Bucks could still climb into the 5th spot in the East by winning the regular season finale at Boston and getting Atlanta to lose both of its remaining games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo collected his third triple-double and 8th of his career with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.  Greg Monroe added 16 points.

The Bucks hit 16 of 28 three-pointers, led by Jason Terry, who hit five of seven.  Khris Middleton and Tony Snell both hit four of five from distance.

Rookie Malcolm Brogdon also returned to the starting lineup after missing five games with a back injury.  He finished with five points, four rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist led Charlotte (36-45) with 13 points.

Bucks return Middleton, lose Parker

February 9, 2017 By Bill Scott

Khris Middleton’s return to the court was supposed to be the start of good things to come for the Milwaukee Bucks.  But forward Jabari Parker went down with what the team is calling a sprained left knee, putting a damper on the night.

The Bucks (22-29) went out and lost to the Miami Heat 106-88, their 11th loss in the last 13 games.  The Heat (23-30) won its 12th straight game.

Parker injured the same knee that required surgery during his rookie season when he suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament in a December 2014 game against Phoenix.  He would miss the rest of the season.

Parker will undergo an MRI today to determine the severity of the injury.

Hassan Whiteside had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead Miami.  Giannis Antetokounmpo had 22 points and eight rebounds for the Bucks.  Parker scored 14 points before getting hurt.  Khris Middleton played 15 minutes in his first game back from a serious hamstring injury.  He finished with five points.

Bucks end 5 game slide, beat Rockets

January 24, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks avenged a 19-point loss to Houston last week by rolling to a 127-114 win over the Rockets on Monday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a game-high 31 points and Jabari Parker added 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Bucks (21-23).

Matthew Dellavedova also added 16 points and seven assists as the Bucks ended a five game losing streak.  Greg Monroe had 17 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

The Bucks are just past the halfway mark of the season.  Coach Jason Kidd said, “Sometimes as a young team, at the halfway point you might be a little tired.  Losing doesn’t help, you get a little frustrated.  I thought we have to smile.  We haven’t been smiling of late and I thought our president (Peter Feigin) set the tone tonight.” [Read more…]

Bucks look to add veteran leadership

August 19, 2016 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 11The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly close to signing veterans Jason Terry and Steve Novak for the upcoming season.

ESPN.com reported Thursday that the Bucks were in advanced talks with Terry.

The 38-year-old Terry won the NBA sixth man award with Dallas in 2009 and spent the last two seasons with the Houston Rockets.  Bucks coach Jason Kidd played with Terry on the Dallas Mavericks NBA championship team in 2011.

The Bucks had originally signed Novak back in February after he was released by the Denver Nuggets.  He played in just three games with the Bucks before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Terry ranks third all-time among NBA players in three-pointers made with 2,169, behind only Ray Allen and Reggie Miller. [Read more…]
