McCarthy high on Finley’s training camp

August 21, 2013 By Bill Scott

When the Green Bay Packers selected Jermichael Finley in the 3rd round of the

Jermichael Finley

Jermichael Finley

2008 draft, he was plenty talented, but he had a lot of growing up to do.

Entering his 6th NFL season, Finley ranks No. 3 in franchise history for the most career receiving yards by a tight end with 2,485 yards and 4th in team history for most receptions by a tight end (198).  He needs just 110 yards to move past No. 2 Ron Kramer (2,594) and five catches to move past No. 3 Ed West (202).

His work ethic has never come into question.  His immaturity has.

Finley has struggled to be on the same page as his quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  He’s called out the former MVP on occasion and has never been shy about letting his opinion be known.  Finley has been active member of social media and has shared his thoughts with the public in that forum as well. Finley looking to get better in 2013

August 1, 2013 By Bill Scott

Jermichael Finley is entering the final year of his contract and he’s hoping to impress everyone both on and off the field.

The Packers TE has had a roller coaster career in both aspects since coming into the league in 2008.  He has shown flashes of greatness on the field but also has mixed in an abundance of drops and mental miscues.  Off the field, his mouth and twitter account have gotten the best of him times.  This year, a contract year, Finley just wants to get better…

A big year coming for Packers TE DJ Williams

July 3, 2013 By Bill Scott

To say the upcoming NFL season is a big one for Green Bay Packers tight end D.J.

D.J. Williams

D.J. Williams

Williams would be an understatement.

After being selected in the 5th round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Arkansas, the Mackey Award-winning Williams has done very little.  In his first two seasons and a total of 26 games, Williams has netted just 9 catches for 70 yards and no touchdowns.

Entering his third season in the NFL, Williams said he knows exactly what is at stake.

March 26, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers will pony up the $3-million roster bonus due

Jermichael Finley

Jermichael Finley

tight end Jermichael Finley today.  It means Finley will be with the team for the final year of his contract this season, at a 2013 salary of $8.25-million.

The move also means the Packers won’t be asking Finley to take a pay cut for the upcoming season, something he earlier indicated he was not willing to do.

Finley set a franchise record for receptions by a tight end with 61 for 676 yards and 2 touchdowns.  The touchdown total is low.  In 2011, Finley caught 55 passes for 767 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Goodell to visit today

August 1, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers are back on the practice field this morning and they’ll

Desmond Bishop

welcome NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to camp today.

Goodell will also have with him, some replacement officials.  It’s possible they may have to work regular season games this year.  The regular officials are still without a new labor deal.

Injury List

Jermichael Finley returned to practice in full pads on Tuesday.  Finley returned after suffering a concussion late last week.

Wide receiver Greg Jennings (elbow) is expected to be back practicing today and linebacker Desmond Bishop (calf) could be back later this week.

DE Ryan Pickett (bruised knee), RB Marc Tyler (shoulder) and DT Mike Daniels (knee, groin) all left practice early yesterday.

Finley gets 2-year deal with the Packers

February 23, 2012 By Bill Scott

Jermichael Finley is in the fold with the Green Bay Packers for the next two

Jermichael Finley

seasons.  The two sides came to terms on a 2-year deal worth a reported $14-million contract, avoiding possible arbitration over the franchise designation and a possible long holdout.

Had the two sides not been able to reach a deal before March 5, the Packers would have been forced to use the franchise tag on Finley.

Now the Packers could use that franchise tag on backup free agent quarterback Matt Flynn with a possible sign and trade deal to follow.
