Aaron Rodgers led Green Bay on a 14-play, 87-yard touchdown scoring drive and the Packers went on to beat the San Francisco 49ers 21-10 in exhibition play at Levi Stadium in San Francisco on Friday night.

Rodgers found Randall Cobb for six yards, giving the Packers a touchdown on their second offensive possession.  That score would mean the end of the night for Rodgers who completed six of nine passes for 60 yards and a  touchdown.

The first drive, which had three penalties in it, ended with a short Peter Mortell punt.

It is likely the only playing time Rodgers will see during the preseason.  Most of the starters are expected to take Thursday night off when the Packers close out the preseason at Kansas City. [Read more…]

Packers Hall of Fame game matchup cancelled (AUDIO)

The Green Bay Packers started training camp a week early because they were picked to play in a fifth preseason contest, the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio.

Issues with the field forced the game to be cancelled.  Paint used on the synthetic turf for logos turned hard and sticky, making it dangerous for the players.

The field came to Canton from the New Orleans Saints, used in the Super Dome last year only.

The field had been covered for the Hall of Fame ceremonies on Saturday.  When it was uncovered, it passed  the safety tests.  But then came the painting of the logo, which caused the problems.

The turf at Tom Benson Stadium will be replaced for next year’s Hall of Fame game and instead of painting, all logo’s will be stitched into the surface.  The change in turf was already planned and was not a reaction to Sunday’s game issues. [Read more…]

Packers getting ready for Colts and Hall of Fame game

The Green Bay Packers wrapped up their practice week on Thursday night as they draw closer to the preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio on Sunday night.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and running back Eddie lacy didn’t practice.  Backup quarterback Brett Hundley didn’t work either, for the second straight night.  He’s  nursing a sore ankle and may not play Sunday night.

Rodgers isn’t expected to play Sunday either, which means the practice reps and playing time on Sunday night could be shared by backups Joe Callahan and Marquise Williams.  Mike McCarthy will meet with his coaches today to make playing-time decisions for the game.

Rodgers was being given the night off, after participating in every camp practice prior to Thursday night.

Eddie Lacy was pulled out of team drills during Wednesday nights practice because of an ankle injury and didn’t work on Thursday.

Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Brett Hundley was expected to see most of the snaps in Sunday’s Hall of Fame game against the Indianapolis Colts in Canton, Ohio.  But Hundley suffered an ankle injury in practice earlier this week and was a spectator during Wednesday night’s practice.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Hundley got “nicked” in practice, but he wouldn’t go into detail on the injury and declined to say whether he expects Hundley to play on Sunday night.

Starter Aaron Rodgers may not play at all.  If Hundley can’t go, then most of the reps would go to third-stringer Joe Callahan.

McCarthy also said none of the other PUP players, Jordy Nelson, Ty Montgomery, Jared Cook, Corey Linsley and Sam Barrington are ready to return to practice.

Running back James Starks was back at practice on Wednesday night after sitting out Monday.
