July 17, 2017 By Bill Scott

Bryson DeChambeau came from four shots back to win the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic by one shot on Sunday in Silvis, Illinois.  The victory is DeChambeau’s first on the PGA Tour and earned him a spot in this week’s British Open.

DeChambeau birdied four of the final six holes at TPC Deere Run, shooting a final round 6-under 65.  He finished 18-under par for the tournament.  Third-round leader Patrick Rodgers shot a 70 to finish in second place.

Stricker and Kelly post top 10 finishes at the John Deere

July 15, 2013 By Bill Scott

For the 5th straight year, Steve Stricker found himself in the top-10 at the John Deere Classic.  Stricker posted a 16-under par performance for the week at the TPC Deere Run for a 10th place time with Jim Herman and a near $120,000 payday.  Stricker won the event 3-years in a row from 2009 to 2011 before finishing tied for 5th last year.

Jerry Kelly had a strong showing as well.  Kelly was 1-shot off the pace at 18-under par to finish in a 3-way tie for 4th.

19-year-old Jordan Spieth took home the trophy after outlasting Zach Johnson and David Hearn in a 5-hole, sudden death playoff.  Spieth is just the the fourth teen to ever win on the PGA Tour and the first teen to do so since 1931.

Neither Stricker or Kelly will be playing in this weeks British Open.  Golf’s 3rd Major of the year gets underway early Thursday from Muirfield in Scotland.

Stricker looking to make it 4 out of 5 at the John Deere

July 11, 2013 By Bill Scott

The John Deere Classic tees off today at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.  It’s the final event on the PGA tour for next week’s British Open.

Wisconsin native and University of Illinois graduate Steve Stricker tees off at 7:30 Thursday morning.  This event has belonged to Stricker in recent years.  He hoisted the trophy for three straight years from 2009 to 2011 before snapping that run last year finishing in a tie for 5th place.

The semi-retired Stricker is playing a light schedule in 2013.  He will not be making the trip to Muirfield for the year’s 3rd Major next week.

Also in the field this week are Jerry Kelly (1:05 tee time) and Mark Wilson (8:50 tee time).  Zach Johnson is the reigning champion.

Stricker comes up short at the John Deere Classic (AUDIO)

July 16, 2012 By Bill Scott

Steve Stricker entered the final round of the John Deere Classic at the TPC Deere Run in Illinois with a chance at a four-peat in the event, however a bogey plagued back-nine left him 4-shots off the lead. Only 4-golfers have ever won the same tournament 4-times in a row; Tom Morris Jr., Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen and Tiger Woods, who did it twice.

Stricker ended the week 16-under par in a tie for 5th place.  He entered the final round in 2nd place, 3-shots behind Troy Matteson but couldn’t find his stroke when it mattered most…
