Morrison blast leads Gold past Blue at Miller Park

July 17, 2020 By Bill Scott

Logan Morrison

The Gold team is off to a 3-0 start in the Milwaukee Brewers Blue & Gold World Series at Miller Park.

The Gold earned a 4-1 victory on Thursday night, thanks to the first inning three-run home run off the bat of Logan Morrison.

Morrison is a non-roster invitee to camp and is making a strong bid to make the Brewers 30-man roster that will open the season next Friday in Chicago against the Cubs.  Currently, the Brewers 40-man roster is full and they would have to cut a player to make room.  But Morrison had a good spring and has picked up in this summer camp, where he left off.  Not to mention, he would give the Brewers another left-handed power bat.

Morrison’s blast came off of Wily Peralta, who eventually settled down, allowing no more runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.  Peralta allowed four hits in all with no walks while striking out one.

Right-hander Josh Lindblom allowed a run on four hits over five innings to earn the win for the Gold team.  Devin Williams and Justin Grimm also turned in solid relief efforts in the game. [Read more…]

Brewers sign Peralta to contract extension

The Milwaukee Brewers have reached agreement on a five-year contract extension with pitcher Freddy Peralta that guarantees him $15.5 million with team options for 2025 and 2026 that could take the deal to $30 million.

The deal was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic and Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The 23-year-old Peralta came to spring training with a slider added to his pitch repertoire.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Peralta and left-hander Eric Lauer are competing for the fifth spot in the starting rotation behind Brandon Woodruff, Adrian  Houser, Brett Anderson and Josh Lindblom.

The five-year deal would reportedly buy out all three of Peralta’s arbitration years.  The club options, if the Brewers choose to exercise them, would buy out the first two years of free agency.

Peralta finished last season with a 7-3 record and a 5.29 ERA.  He made eight starts and 39 appearances in relief.  In 55 career games, Peralta is 13-7 with a 4.79 ERA.  He recorded 211 strikeouts in 163 1/3 innings.

Brewers add pitcher from Korean League

December 12, 2019 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers added right-handed pitcher Josh Lindblom from the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) on Wednesday.

The two sides agreed to a three-year deal, guaranteeing $9.125 million to the 32-year-old Lindblom.  He pitched the last five seasons in the KBO.

Lindblom was used primarily as a reliever in the Major Leagues, but he switched to a starter in Korea.  Lindblom went 20-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 30 starts last season.  Londblom was named the most valuable player in the league for his performance.

Overall, Lindblom was 35-7 with a 2.68 ERA in 56 starts in the KBO.

The Brewers are looking for starting pitching help after losing Jordan Lyles and Gio Gonzalez to free agency and the trades of Zach Davies and Chase Anderson.

Lindblom was a second-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Purdue in 2008 and spent time in the majors with the Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers, A’s and Pirates.
