Gomez secures a 4-3 win for the Brewers (AUDIO)

July 9, 2013 By Bill Scott

It appeared for a moment that Reds first basemen Joey Votto was going to be the hero at Miller Park Monday night.  With the Brewers leading 4-3 in the top of the 9th, Votto was a the plate with a runner on and 2-outs facing Milwaukee closer Francisco Rodriguez.  Votto lifted a towering, deep fly ball to center field that had home run distance.   The only problem was Milwaukee outfielder Carlos Gomez tracked it down, leaped at the wall and secured the catch over the fence to give the Brewers the win.

It was the 4th time this year Gomez has robbed an opposing player of a home run.  No other player in baseball has done it more than twice.  It was an ending to a game that Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke had never seen before…

Errors cost the Brewers, again (AUDIO)

July 8, 2013 By Bill Scott

Two costly throwing errors by Brewers third baseman Juan Francisco led to a pair of unearned runs Sunday.  That was enough to send the Mets to a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.  The Mets took the weekend series 2-1.

Tom Gorzelanny took the hard-luck loss in a spot-start our of the bullpen.  Gorzelanny lasted 6-innings, allowing the 2-unearned runs on 8-hits while fanning 8-Mets.  Manager Ron Roenicke was happy with the efforts of his starter…

Peralta injured in Brewers win

July 3, 2013 By Bill Scott

Another Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher has been effected by injury after Wily Peralta left last night’s 4-0 victory over Washington.  Peralta was battling Stephen Strasburg in a scoreless game until his hamstring tightened up 1-out in to the 6th inning.  Peralta had to leave the game although manager Ron Roenicke said there doesn’t appear to be any kind of pull.  The Brewers say Peralta is listed as day-to-day.

Peralta’s outing was his best this season, allowing three hits while walking two and striking out five.

Strasburg blanked the Brewers through 7-innings before giving way to the bullpen.  That’s when the Brewers would strike, scoring all 4-runs off of Nationals reliever Drew Storen.  Juan Francisco drove in the winning runs with his 2-run double in the 8th.

It ended the Brewers 6-game slide and evened the series at a game apiece.

Peralta is the third Brewers pitcher this season to have to leave a game with hamstring issues, joining Jim Henderson and Marco Estrada.

Kyle Lohse (3-6, 3.63) pitches game three of the series for the Brewers tonight.  Ross Detwiler (2-6, 2.41) goes for the Nationals.

Gallardo struggles in Brewers 6th straight defeat

July 2, 2013 By Bill Scott

Yovani Gallardo

deep into the game last night.  Gallardo didn’t get the memo, allowing 8-runs on 9-hits in just 3-innings of work.  The Brewers fell to the Nationals 10-5, suffering their 6th straight loss.

Bryce Harper homered on his first swing since coming off the disabled list to set the tone for the Nationals.  Harper had missed 31 games with bursitis in his left knee.

The Nationals moved two games above the .500 mark for the first time since late May.  The offense put up double-digit runs for the second straight game after scoring 13-runs in a win over the New York Mets on Sunday. [Read more…]

Brewers drop game, series to the Cubs

June 27, 2013 By Bill Scott

It was another rough day at the office for the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday.  A couple of fielding errors and a bad day at the plate lead to the Brewers 5-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs.  The Cubs take the three game series 2-1.

Starter Wily Peralta didn’t have great day but didn’t get much help either.  He allowed 7-runs, only 3-earned, on 8-hits in 5-innings of work.  His record falls to 5-9 on the season.

Matt Garza shined on the hill for Chicago.  He allowed 1-run while scattering 8-hits and striking out 10-Brewers.  Dioner Navarro’s 3-run 3rd inning home run was the big hit for Cubs pushing a 3-0 lead to 6-0. [Read more…]

Gallardo struggles as Brewers fall to the Cubs (AUDIO)

June 27, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers couldn’t make it back-to-back wins over the Chicago Cubs as they dropped a 5-4 decision Wednesday night at Miller Park.

Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo tied a season low by lasting just 4-innings.  He allowed 4-runs on 8-hits while walking-5 to fall to 6-7 on the season.  Gallardo tossed 96-pitches on the night, an average of 24-pitches an inning.  Manager Ron Roenicke wasn’t happy with Gallardo’s night…

AUDIO: Ron Roenicke on Gallardo’s night :14

Scott Feldman was solid for Chicago.  He made it 6-innings giving up 3-runs on 6-hits improving his record to 7-6 with the quality start.

Rickie Weeks continued to produce at the plate with 2-more hits upping his average to .235 on the year.  His average sat at .179 one month ago and a season low .164 two months back.  Weeks had been splitting time with Scooter Gennett who was called up on June 3rd.  After last nights game, the Brewers sent Gennett back to Triple-A Nashville (1B/OF Sean Helton from Nashville to Milwaukee) to get Weeks more at bats…

Juan Francisco (8) and Aramis Ramirez (5) went deep in the loss.  For Ramirez, the hit was number 2000 for his career.

The teams are back to a last place tie in the National League Central with identical 32-44 records.  They play the rubber match of the 3-game series this afternoon at Miller Park.  Wily Peralta (5-8, 5.59 ERA) goes for Milwaukee against Matt Garza (2-1, 4.25 ERA) of Chicago.  First pitch is 1:10

Brewers current state means roster moves

June 3, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers 21-34 record, including a 6-22 month of May, has finally brought about some moves with yet to be determined results.

The Brewers called up second baseman Scooter Gennett from Triple-A Nashville and acquired third baseman Juan Francisco from Atlanta.

To make room for Gennett and Francisco, the Brewers released infielder Alex Gonzalez who was hitting just .177 in 41 games this season.  They also sent right-handed pitcher Mike Fiers to Nashville.

Gennett was hitting .297 at Nashville in 50 games with a homer, 13 RBI’S and 8 stolen bases.  Gennett’s promotion likely means considerable more bench time for Rickie Weeks. [Read more…]
